Bach Wilderness Night 2022
A weekend in the wilderness? No problem with the right equipment! The brand BACH Equipment proves this year after year at its Wilderness Night. Once again, we were there in 2022. In addition to new backpacks and the well-known tents from BACH and Spatz, this time the new camping chairs from BACH were also presented.
Scavenger hunt in the woods
This year's BACH Wilderness Night took place in Wolfach in the Black Forest. In a prepared forest camp Dominik and Steffen were waiting for us together with Mareike, who was responsible for our physical well-being. Like the last years, the BACH event was organised by "Live the Wilderness".
After the rain had finally stopped with the arrival of the last participants, there was a short briefing by Dominik and Steffen from "Lebe die Wildnis" about how to survive in the woods and the whole process of the event. In a product training session, we were introduced to the revised Daydream 40 trekking backpack.
Fortified with Mareike's vegan snacks, we were divided into our teams and sent on our first tour. Equipped with map and compass, we were to locate our equipment for the next day. The long search was worth it, we got the new Bach Daydream 40 including a camping chair.
Conclusion on the Daydream backpack
As always, I was very impressed by the quality of the BACH Equipment products. The innovations on the backpack, such as the padded laptop compartment or the additional access points, are very useful for me. I find the zipped pockets on the hip belt very practical. As with the previous backpacks, the carrying feel is very comfortable and even with heavy weights there is no pressure pain on the shoulders and neck.

Back at camp we were allowed to set up our night shelter. In no time at all, we girls had our Laughing Owl 4 Tent ready for occupancy. With only three poles, the tent is really quick and easy to set up. It also offers a lot of space and comfort.
We had the luxury of being able to test the family tent as just the two of us, which was of course perfect. We were able to take our backpacks and shoes into the tent to avoid dampness. However, there would also be enough space for this in the awning. This can be used as a tarp during the day and closed in the evening.

BACH Laughing Owl 4
Here you can see how to set up the 4-person Laughing Owl 4 tent from BACH Equipment. The camping chairs, which range from long-backed deck chairs to small sitting chairs, are also very easy to set up and fit into any backpack with their small pack size.
In the evening, we tested the products of the manufacturer Fennek for preparing dinner and for our campfire. The fire bowls can be packed small for transport and put together in a few easy steps. Under a clear starry sky we let the evening come to a cosy end.
Team spirit is key
After a delicious breakfast, Dominik and Steffen prepared us for our day. First, they showed us how to start a fire using only a fire steel and materials from nature. With regard to one of our tasks for the day, we also learned how to build a stable torch. We managed to extend the 18-kilometre tour to 23, but in the end we reached all six stations as a team and also collected the given 20 litres of water from a spring and carried it back to our camp. As a final task, in addition to the water canister, a person had to be dragged up the last few metres with a transport tarp.
Things got heated at the next task: we had to build torches with the collected materials and light them with the fire we had stoked ourselves. At least we scored well here, as our torches burned the longest. After this exhausting day, we had really earned our dinner and it was, as always, very tasty.
On the last day, a winner had to be determined. Therefore, we were faced with different tasks again. We were allowed to try different plants, but unfortunately our snack did not remain vegan. Only those who ate all the roasted maggots could get full points here. Skill was needed for knots, as well as in the carabiner maze. The transport of the wounded made us sweat and the slingshot, as always, cost us our last nerves. As the smallest, I had to do the abseiling task, which cost me the last of my strength.
But once again we scored points in the fire task and took second place overall. In addition to the prizes from BACH, Fennek donated a HOBO or a fire bowl for all members of the first and second place teams. Thanks again for the great prize, it was really worth the effort. A big thank you to the team from " Lebe die Wildnis" for the organisation and great catering, we learned a lot again and maybe we can now survive in the wilderness. And of course to BACH for the invitation to this exciting event.
