Sustainability and lightness: the trends in the outdoor industry

The new collection from Berghaus
The new collection from Berghaus
As last year, it was noticeable that many brands are acting in an environmentally conscious manner. The sustainable manufacturing process for outdoor items relies on recyclable materials and energy-efficient production processes to minimise the ecological footprint.

The trend towards lighter products is also continuing. The award winner from the Rab brand (see image below) deserves special mention here. The Veil XP30 weighs just 0.545kg and is a masterpiece of functionality and lightness. Rab is setting new standards in the field of IP-certified rucksacks with the introduction of the ultra-light model, which also impresses with its environmentally friendly design.

On the other hand, the deuter Speed Light Pro Backpack (see picture below) is also worth mentioning. Deuter has thoroughly revamped its Speed Lite Pro collection and added helpful, simple and practical features. The new LiteAir back system guarantees an optimum mix of light weight, high strength and effective air circulation thanks to in-built ventilation channels. To summarise: The rucksack is now lighter, offers better breathability and places greater emphasis on sustainable materials.

There is a wide range of colour trends - from bright orange, green or red to earth tones and pastel blue and mint.

A look into the future

Even though the past year was not easy for everyone in the industry and some had to contend with an oversupply of products, massive discount battles and significantly declining margins, there is optimism for the future. According to the press conference, a new concept for the trade fair will be launched in 2025.
Three central changes are at the center of attention

- The halls will be organised like a city.
- Additional target groups such as product design, marketing, technology or service will be also addressed.
- Areas for business or private discussions promote effective networking and expand the opportunities for dialogue on site.

We are already very excited and looking forward to it!
