The wine industry in Italy produces tons of wine every year, and the wine waste is usually thrown away. The grape waste is mixed with water-based PU and applied to a recycled polyester fabric to create a leather-like material. The use of recycled plastics not only limits the production of new plastics, which are massively destroying our planet, but also frees the earth from waste products and gives them a new life.

Our life cycle assessment, created by the certified FAIRLY MADE® solution, shows that our GrapeSkin emits 4.46 kg C02 per m², compared to 61 kg C02 per m² for animal leather. 3 kg of grape waste is contained in one pair of sneakers. As VEGEA does more and more research, they can improve their production. Their latest materials contain 55% grape waste, which means that the other materials have been reduced proportionally.
