Mons Royale

Fresh Design from New Zealand
Founded in 2009 at Lake Wanaka in New Zealand, Mons Royale is known for base layers that can be worn not only on but also off the mountains. Base layers are often kept in simple colors like black or grey, which is why the fresh new design of Mons Royale stands out in the market. The brand focuses primarily on merino wool products for snow and bike sports that can also be worn in everyday life.

The Materials Used
Merino sheep are the oldest breeding sheep in the world, living high in the alpine hills of New Zealand where the climate is harsh. Developed to withstand extremes, merino wool is therefore a highly functional fibre by nature.
Within the range, Mons Royale blends merino wool with other materials to further enhance its performance properties. In some cases, they use synthetics in addition to merino to strengthen the wool and thus increase the durability of the products. Where possible, the manufacturer uses a blend of merino with natural fibres, such as Tencel.

Properties of merino wool
Mons Royale relies on merino wool in its products because of various advantages and properties. Due to the crimped structure of merino fibres, it is almost impossible for bacteria to settle in them. Due to this anti-odour property, the base layers remain fresh and odourless even under heavy exertion.
Furthermore, merino wool is known for its high warmth-to-weight ratio. It is much thinner than normal wool fibres. This is why garments made of merino wool are particularly breathable and dry quickly. The fabric warms without being thick or heavy. It is also pleasant to wear on the skin and does not itch, as other fabrics made of wool do.
Another advantage of merino wool compared to other materials is its temperature regulation: Merino can absorb a lot of moisture and thus transport it away from the body more quickly. As a result, the material insulates even when wet, keeping the body warm and dry even in bad conditions. When it is warm, the material cools. This makes base layers of merino wool the perfect companion in the mountains.
