Blizzard
On the way to Austria's number 1 on the ski market
The first skis for private use were made by Toni Arnsteiner in his father's carpentry shop in 1945 when he returned wounded to Mittersill after World War II. Athletes celebrated their first successes with Blizzard skis in 1958 at the 15th Alpine Ski World Championship in Bad Gastein. Further historic victories followed in 1962 at the World Ski Championships in Charmonix and at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck.
Numerous company expansions as well as the start of series production resulted in record sales in 1965. In the 80s, Blizzard presented numerous innovations in the ski and ski binding sector. This made the company the most important ski brand in Austria. Since 2006, Blizzard has been a member of the Tecnica-Group.
Presentation of a world novelty and further innovations!
In 1980, after 6 years of development and an investment of 30 million shillings, Blizzard launched the THERMO-SKI, the first temperature-controlled ski from Austria. Thanks to this innovative product feature, this model was able to adapt perfectly to a wide range of slope conditions.
In addition to the further development of the "THERMO-SKI" into the "QUATTRO", a thermo ski with "Talski-Automatik", Blizzard produced new innovative binding systems at the beginning of the 80s. In the course of these innovations, brand awareness continued to grow, which led to Blizzard becoming the most successful ski brand in men's downhill season 1982/1983.
Blizzard achieved a quantum leap in ski technology with the "IQ-System", the world's first system that allows skis and ski binding to become a homogeneous unit. The logical consequence: prestigious awards for the work done. Blizzard is the first brand ever to receive the prestigious "ispo Award" for the second year in a row. 2010 for the ski model "R-POWER FS IQ" and one year later for the Flip Core Rocker technology.
Environmental commitment as part of the corporate philosophy
The careful use of resources is very important to the Austrian company, whose products are sold all over the world. Since 2008, numerous steps have been taken to optimise energy consumption, such as the conversion from steam to hot water heating, the modernisation of the air supply and exhaust air system, thermal refurbishments or the introduction of a new heating technology in the warehouse. By doing this, energy consumption was halved in the following 3 years. In addition, Blizzard is committed to solving environmental issues through the "Salzburg2050" partnership.
