Frequently asked questions

Do Salewa hiking boots run small?

Salewa itself recommends ordering hiking boots one size larger than usual. For women's jackets, Salewa also advises going up a size if you want a warm jumper to fit underneath.

What is the 3F system?

A patented Salewa system: a steel or Kevlar cable connects the lacing, sole and heel. According to Salewa, this gives a secure hold at the ankle without making the shoe stiff.

Can I adjust the insole to my foot?

Yes. The Alp Trainer 2 and Wildfire 2 have the Multi Fit Footbed Plus: you choose between insoles and adjust the volume that way. The Puez 2 Mid comes with a volume reducer insole.

What is Durastretch?

A Salewa softshell material made of nylon, with 2-way or 4-way stretch. It has no membrane and is therefore very breathable, according to Salewa. Some items also have a water-repellent finish.

How can I tell how warm a down jacket is?

Look at the fill power and the weight. According to Salewa, the Ortles Medium weighs around 570 g and the Ortles Heavy 905 g, both with 750 cuin. With the same fill power, the heavier jacket is the warmer one.
