Salewa MS Ortles Couloir

Award-winningTechnical precision, low weight, high-performance insulation, optimum protection and a snug fit in cold and wet conditions: The Ortles Couloir is Salewa's award-winning, innovative and fully crampon-compatible mountain boot for alpine mountaineering and climbing on ice and mixed terrain.Kevlar® and PU for outstanding protection at a low weightIts understated design and weight of just 725 g make the Ortles Couloir the lightest mountain boot in its category. This is made possible by the lightweight but stable, load-bearing carbon fiber frame. The combination of die-cast carbon fibers and reinforced, unidirectional polymer fibercomposites enables a reduced thickness with maximum torsionaland longitudinal stiffness, strength and rigidity. The upper part of the frame is additionally reinforced with Kevlar® and PU to improve protection and flexibility in the shin area. The special Ankle Protector System (APS) made of carbon fiber, which is attached to the shoe with a hinge, protects the ankle and at the same time offers excellent freedom of movement when walking. A hard-wearing PU rand protects the upper from damage caused by rock edges, scree and crampons. The Ortles Couloir is of course fully crampon-compatible, which is further enhanced by the solid carbon fiber frame and additionally reinforced bumper edges in the toeand heel area.Highly effective insulationThe Ortles Couloir was developed in collaboration with mountainguides and professional climbers to keep your feet comfortably dry and warm even under extreme conditions in the mountains while preventing perspiration. The combination of inner and outer shoe offers a waterproof, breathable membrane as well as an elastic and comfortable, outer protective gaiter made of nylon with a heat-sealed, waterproof YKK® zipper and an abrasion-resistant PU bumper edge. The elastic properties of the protective gaiter and a gaitercuff with non-slip silicone inserts keep snow and ice away from the inner boot. This has a hard-wearing outer layer made of nylon and a warm inner lining made of synthetic felt fabric, which provides the best thermal protection. To prevent frostbite in the toe area, the toe box is equipped with an additional, padded inner lining with cold protection and Responsive footbed, which prevents the cold from penetrating the shoe.Agility, precision, stabilityThis mountain boot was developed with the aim of offering improved agility and excellent stability on routes with mixed, challenging terrain, ice climbing and glacier crossings. The Vibram® Litebase outsole increases surefootedness. Its 30% lower weight compared to conventional soles ensures that you have to carry less and expend less energy, but can still rely on optimum surefootedness, grip and durability. The tread features climbing zones in the toe area, non-slip grooves and stepped lugs for better grip, as well as a heel zone that makes it easier to slow down on steep descents. The Vibram® rubber compound loses none of its performance even at temperatures below 0° C. The varying thickness of the lightweight carbon fiber midsole supports stability, weight distribution and precision for crampon walking with vertical toe technology, while specially tuned areas provide the necessary flexibility and stability for a whole range of different activities. The compact, double-layer polyurethane midsole guarantees optimal walking characteristics, outstanding comfort and a precise fit.The Ortles Couloir is a pioneering SALEWA® mountain boot and ideal for use in alpine mountaineering, ice climbing and mixed terrain climbing.
