Q, V and QV in the name

Q stands for Quattroflex: the lens boosts contrast and a polarising filter reduces glare, on ice for example. V means Varioflex: it tints itself and, according to Alpina, covers up to three filter categories. QV combines both. Q-lite boosts contrast.

Helmet size in centimetres

Measure your head circumference one finger's width above your eyebrows. The matching range is given in centimetres on every Alpina helmet. You fine-tune it with the dial at the back, the Run System: turning it clockwise makes it tighter.

Protector by back length

For the protector vests, the length from waist to shoulder counts as well as your height. Children's size 152/158, for example, fits 36 to 41 cm according to Alpina. All vests meet the EN 1621-2 Level 1 standard.

Frequently asked questions

Which filter category do I need?

Alpina recommends S0 for poor visibility or night skiing, S1 for light cloud, S2 for cloudless skies, S3 for lots of sun and S4 for glaring light on the glacier. The category is shown on the packaging label.

How do I find goggles that fit my helmet?

Try the goggles on with your helmet. Frame and helmet should sit flush, otherwise you'll feel a draught on your forehead. Every Alpina ski helmet has a clip at the back for the goggle strap.

Can I replace the visor or lens?

Yes. The visor is screwed on: move it to the lower position, undo the screws and fit the new visor with the centring ring. According to Alpina, replacement lenses for ski goggles are available from specialist retailers; Mag models hold the lens magnetically.

How do I clean my ski goggles?

The inside has an anti-fog coating that suffers from rubbing. Rinse the lens with lukewarm water, shake it off and let it air-dry. Remove grease with the goggle bag, never with paper tissues.

Does a helmet need replacing after a fall?

Yes. According to Alpina, the protective effect can drop considerably after a fall, even if nothing is visible on the outside. Don't keep wearing a helmet that has been in an accident.
