V, CV and FM in the name

V stands for variomatic: the lens tints itself and covers protection categories S1 to S3. CV means colorvision, according to Uvex for more contrast in diffuse light. FM is a fully mirrored lens. ATTRACT means interchangeable lenses with a magnetic mount.

Helmet size in centimetres

Uvex gives helmet sizes as head circumference, such as 52–57 or 56–61 cm. Measure once around your head, two fingers' width above your eyebrows. According to Uvex, the dial of the IAS system is only for fine adjustment; the helmet should already fit beforehand.

A new helmet after a fall

According to Uvex, a ski or bike helmet must be replaced after every fall, even without visible damage. The same applies if it is older than eight years. The production date is on the label inside the helmet.

Frequently asked questions

What does MIPS do in a helmet?

With MIPS, a movable slip liner sits directly against your head. According to Uvex, it absorbs rotational forces in an angled impact. You can recognise these models by MIPS in the name, such as Resolution MIPS or City Stride MIPS.

Which protection category do I need?

Uvex recommends S1 for fog and snowfall, S2 for sun with clouds and S3 for clear sunny days. S4 is very dark and intended for glaciers. A polarising filter also cuts out reflections from the snow.

Are there ski goggles for glasses wearers?

Yes. Uvex calls them OTG models, short for over the glasses: your prescription glasses fit underneath. Whether a model is OTG is stated in the product description.

How do I clean my ski goggles?

Clean the outside with clear water only, no household cleaner, then let them air-dry. The anti-fog coating sits on the inside. Don't wipe there; at most dab carefully. Simply tap snow out of the inside.

My helmet has a defect. What should I do?

Write to our customer service. Uvex doesn't accept claims directly; the first port of call is the retailer, and that's us. If the chin strap tears, stop wearing the helmet: Uvex says it will replace it free of charge if it is no more than five years old.
