High-end ski wear from Colorado
Spyder was founded by David Jacobs, a former member of the Canadian national ski team. In the late 1970s, frustrated with the gear available at one of his sons' ski races, Jacobs decided to start making his own ski jackets. In 1978, he founded his company, David L Jacobs, Inc., in Boulder, Colorado.
After his racing jackets took off, he soon began making ski pants too. The stripes on the pants earned them the nickname "spider pants," since they looked a bit like spider legs. Jacobs renamed the company accordingly, and the Spyder brand was born.
Today, Spyder is best known for its functional, hard-wearing ski jackets and pants, which keep setting new benchmarks in technology and design.

Technological innovation
When it comes to ski wear technology, Spyder has long been a pioneer. Whether outfitting world-class pros or passionate weekend skiers, the brand's commitment to innovation never wavers. By partnering with leading technologies, Spyder delivers top comfort and performance on the slopes.
Its ongoing push for better materials has produced innovations like "Pow Pow," created with GORE-TEX in 2019, and the new proprietary "EXO Shield" fabric, which combines 4-way stretch, a 30,000mm waterproof rating, breathability and a high share of recycled materials.

Committed to sustainability
Since fall 2024, Spyder has been phasing PFAS out of its ski wear in stages, turning to new waterproof materials and DWR treatments free of these chemicals. Fabrics like the proprietary EXO Shield also incorporate a share of recycled fibers.
