Technologies and manufacturing processes
Contour Shape
The Sea to Summit Contour Shape is widest at the point where the upper body and elbows of the sleeper are located. This allows the sleeper to turn over and sleep on their side without rolling off the mat or touching the cold ground with their arms and hands. Contoured mats have a 12% larger surface area than traditional conical (mummy) mats and are only slightly heavier. Finally - a sleeping mat designed for the way you actually sleep.Air Zone Construction
The Air Zone Construction uses vertical cut-outs in the foam. The cut-outs are contoured to the body and vary in size - reducing weight where you don't need it and increasing support and insulation in the zones where you do.Side Loading Stuff Sack
The side pack sack supplied with all 2026 Sea to Summit self-inflating mats solves the perennial problem of packing a sleeping mat end up in a pack sack. Loosen the drawstring, place the rolled-up mat inside, pull the drawstring tight and you can pack the mat in your rucksack. Who thinks about that? We do.ASTM F3340 R-Value Testing
To make sure you are warm when you sleep (especially if the floor is cooler), it is important to know how well your sleeping mat resists heat loss into the floor. This resistance is known as the R-value. A laboratory tested R-value is the only way to measure resistance to heat lossXPEL Valve
The Sea to Summit XPEL valve was the first valve designed specifically for self-inflating sleeping mats. It integrates a one-way inflation port, a large deflation port and a fine adjustment knob into a single, low-profile unit. The ingenious thing about the XPEL valve is that to release the air from the sleeping mat, the valve is reversed so that the air can escape but cannot return to the mat. This turns the one-way valve for inflation into a one-way valve for deflation - preventing the mat from filling up with air when rolled up. The XPEL valve fits onto the nozzle of an Airstream pump (sold separately) if you want to "inflate" your self-inflating mat, which you can also do manually.
