GTX means a GORE-TEX membrane. WP shoes such as the Saentis Pro WP use Mammut's own DRYtechnology. ML stands for mid layer, IN for insulated jackets, such as the down-filled Broad Peak IN.
Washing a hardshell
According to Mammut: liquid detergent for outdoor clothing, no fabric softener, 30 °C on a delicate cycle, 400 to 600 rpm, rinse twice. Then tumble dry for around 40 minutes on low to medium heat. The heat reactivates the water-repellent finish.
Finding the right size
Mammut shoes come in UK sizes; according to the size chart, UK 8 corresponds to EU 42. For jackets, go by your chest circumference. For trousers, the lower hip measurement counts.
Mammut: from Switzerland since 1862
Mammut's brand film runs just under two minutes. The Swiss company was founded in 1862 and today equips people for mountain sports.
Frequently asked questions
Do Mammut trousers come in short and long sizes?
Some ski trousers do. The Haldigrat Hardshell Bib Pants and the Stoney Hardshell Thermo Pants are available in Short and Long as well as the regular length.
How often should I wash my hardshell?
Only when it is really dirty, Mammut advises. After drying, put a few drops of water on the fabric: if they soak in instead of beading off, the jacket needs a new water-repellent treatment.
Hardshell or Hardshell Thermo?
Thermo models such as the Stoney Hardshell Thermo Pants have built-in synthetic insulation. Without Thermo, the shell protects against wind and wet; the warmth comes from the layers underneath.
Which soles does Mammut use?
It varies by shoe. The Aenergy TR and Aenergy Ultra run on Vibram Megagrip, the Ultimate III on a MICHELIN hybrid sole. The Sertig and Aenergy Hike have Mammut's own Swiss Design sole.
Where does the mammoth in the logo come from?
From a quality seal. In the 1940s, Mammut's climbing ropes were given a seal showing a mammoth. That became the company logo.
Stoney
Stoney is Mammut's all-mountain ski wear for the piste and the terrain beside it. The jacket has a waterproof Dry Tour 3-layer laminate; the Thermo trousers also have synthetic insulation.
Haldigrat
Haldigrat is made for freeride and freetouring, uphill and downhill. The jacket has a Drytech Pro membrane and rucksack-friendly chest pockets. The Air version with Pertex Shield Air packs small.
Taiss
Taiss is for demanding mountain routes, from icy summit climbs to ski tours. The Pro hardshell in stretch nylon has pre-shaped sleeves, plus light mid layers such as the Taiss Light ML.
Aenergy
Aenergy shoes are as light as a trail running shoe and as robust as a hiking shoe. You adjust the TR BOA with the BOA Fit System, according to the product description even wearing gloves.
Sertig
Sertig is the light multifunction shoe for hiking and everyday wear, with a GORE-TEX membrane and cushioning EVA midsole. The Sertig II is a Mid, the Sertig TR a low shoe for fast trail runs.
