DryVent and FUTURELIGHT
Both are waterproof, breathable membranes from The North Face. DryVent is used as a 2-layer, seam-sealed construction in jackets such as the Quest. FUTURELIGHT features in hiking shoes like the Vectiv Fastpack; according to the brand, air passes through the material.
Care: washing and heat
Wash membrane jackets according to the care label, with a detergent for technical clothing and without fabric softener. Dirt and skin oils weaken the water-repellent treatment. Many manufacturers recommend a little heat afterwards so that rain beads off again.
Jackets come in INT sizes from XS to 3XL; according to the size chart, chest circumference is what counts. If your lower hips are wider and the jacket should cover them, choose the size by your hips. Shoes are listed in US sizes: measure your foot length and read the size off the chart.
We Play Different
A campaign film from The North Face lasting just over a minute. Nature doesn't play games, it says, and outdoors the brand plays by its own rules.
Frequently asked questions
Quest, Quest Insulated or Quest Triclimate?
The Quest Jacket is the pure rain jacket. The Quest Insulated also has a synthetic fill for cold days. The Quest Triclimate is a 3-in-1 jacket: you wear the outer jacket and the zip-in fleece together or separately.
Borealis or Borealis Classic?
The Borealis holds 28 litres and has a laptop compartment for up to 16 inches. The Borealis Classic holds 29 litres, takes laptops up to 15 inches and has a base made of 1680D ballistic nylon.
Is the Base Camp Duffel waterproof?
No, it is water-repellent. The fabric with DWR treatment keeps out light moisture, and the lid zip is covered. For prolonged rain, pack sensitive items in a dry bag inside.
Can I wear ThermoBall booties outdoors?
Yes, according to The North Face they are made for everyday and leisure wear, with a rubber sole and a water-repellent ripstop upper. For snow and longer distances, a winter boot like the ThermoBall Lace Up WP with waterproof DryVent construction is the better choice.
What does the name The North Face mean?
It refers to the north face of a mountain, the coldest and most inhospitable side. The brand was founded in 1966 in San Francisco.
The Borealis is the daypack for commuting, everyday use and hiking. Its FlexVent carrying system has pre-shaped shoulder straps, a padded back panel and a removable hip belt.
Quest stands for weather jackets for hiking and everyday wear, with a fixed hood, chin guard and drawcord hem. They come as a rain jacket, insulated and as a 3-in-1.
The Base Camp Duffel in tough Base Camp fabric with ballistic nylon comes in sizes XS to XXL. Removable shoulder straps turn it into a backpack. The Voyager bags are for business and weekends.
ThermoBall is The North Face's synthetic insulation which, according to the brand, keeps you warm even when wet. You'll find it in the slip-on Traction Booties and Mules and in winter boots.
Vectiv is the sole technology of the hiking shoes: a rocker-shaped midsole with a 3D TPU plate for stability and roll-through. Fastpack and Exploris 2 are waterproof with FUTURELIGHT.
Summit Series is the line for mountaineering, alpine tours and climbing. It includes the lightweight Futurefleece hooded jacket and the Breithorn down jacket with 800-fill ProDown.
