Snowboard gloves
Buying guide ↓Wrist protection needs room inside the glove; palm padding does not replace it.
Guide
Snowboard gloves
Your hands often touch snow when fastening bindings or getting up. Compare water protection, cuffs and room for your wrist guards before deciding on a finger shape.
Key points
- Not every snowboard glove includes wrist protection.
- A long cuff can go over the jacket sleeve.
- Water-repellent leather is not a waterproof membrane.
- You need enough finger movement to fasten your bindings.
What matters on your board?
| Use | Choose | Bear in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Frequent snow contact | ChooseMembrane and adjustable cuff | Bear in mindAvoid an open gap where the glove meets your jacket. |
| Separate wrist guards | ChooseTry both together | Bear in mindAn additional guard may need space around the palm and cuff. |
| Frequent fastening | ChooseMobile finger design | Bear in mindOperate the ratchet and fastening of your own binding with gloves on. |
What to look for
| Question | In brief | Why |
|---|---|---|
| How much room? | In briefBend your fingers freely | WhyThe glove should not pull at the fingertips when gripping or squeeze your hand together with its guard. |
| Which cuff? | In briefMatch your jacket sleeve | WhyA long cuff needs room over the sleeve. A short closure works only when the sleeve reliably covers the gap. |
| Which lining? | In briefPlan how it dries | WhyA removable liner can dry separately. With a fixed lining, moisture needs to escape through the glove opening. |
Common questions
Do padded gloves count as wrist guards?
No. Soft palm padding cushions but does not support the wrist. For that you need a glove with a built-in protector or guards that fit underneath.
Are leather gloves always waterproof?
No. This selection includes water-repellent leather designs and gloves with waterproof membranes. The construction of the whole glove matters; leather care cannot add a missing membrane.
What if my fingers get cold quickly?
A more heavily insulated mitten may feel warmer, but small fastenings are harder to operate. Try your bindings with it on. A glove that is too tight will remain uncomfortable regardless of how much insulation it contains.
How should I dry them after snowboarding?
Open cuffs and fastenings, take out removable liners and follow the care label. Strong direct heat may damage leather and other components. Do not leave damp gloves closed inside your bag after the day.
