Helly Tech: three levels

Helly Tech is the waterproof, breathable outer layer. According to Helly Hansen, it comes in three levels: Protection for everyday wear with at least 5,000 mm hydrostatic head, Performance for outdoor sports with 10,000 mm and Professional with 20,000 mm.

Lifa: the base layer

Lifa has been around since 1970. The polypropylene fibre moves sweat from the skin to the surface of the fabric, where it evaporates. Lifa Merino has merino wool on the outside and, according to Helly Hansen, is the warmest version.

Finding the right size

For trousers, the size chart goes by your lower hip measurement. If your waist is larger than the chart gives for that size, choose the size by your waist. The chart also lists the inside leg length for each size.

Frequently asked questions

What is Lifaloft?

According to Helly Hansen, Lifaloft combines Lifa fibres with PrimaLoft insulation. It is meant to keep you warm without making the jacket heavy or bulky.

What does H2Flow mean?

That is Helly Hansen's name for its ventilation system. Air pockets hold the warmth, and zips let you release it when you get too warm. You'll find it in the Alpha 4.0, for example.

What is the Life Pocket?

A pocket that protects your phone from the cold so the battery lasts longer. You'll find it in the Alpha 4.0 and the Alpha Lifaloft, among others.

Do the ski jackets have RECCO?

Some do. The Men's Alpha Lifaloft has the RECCO Advanced Rescue System. Whether another model has it is stated in its product description.

How warm are the Arctic Patrol Boots?

For the men's model, Helly Hansen gives down to -30 °C, insulated with 200 g PrimaLoft. The women's model has 400 g/m² PrimaLoft. Both have an aluminium layer under the foot.
