Bega: Balanced or Breathe
Bega is the membrane in Bergans shells. According to Bergans, Balanced is made for moderate activity and has a 10,000 mm hydrostatic head in the Oslo Insulated Shell Coat, while Breathe in the Rabot Alpine 3L breathes more and holds 20,000 mm. Breathe Pro is the ultralight version for a fast pace.
Finding the right size
According to its size guide, Bergans cuts slightly more generously than everyday clothing so that layers fit underneath. If you are between two sizes, Bergans recommends the smaller one. Men's M fits a 103 cm chest, women's M a 97 cm chest.
Repairs after wear and tear
According to Bergans, what your tailor can't fix may be repaired by its repair service, the Outdoor Service Team: zips, tears, rucksack straps. You send the item, washed, directly to them and get a quote first. Depending on the season, it takes two to four weeks.
How to wash and dry down garments
In just over a minute, Bergans shows step by step how to wash and dry down clothing. Important, according to Bergans: no fabric softener, an extra rinse and, to finish, the tumble dryer with four to five tennis balls.
Frequently asked questions
What do 2L and 3L in the name mean?
The number gives the layers of the waterproof fabric. With 3L, as in the Rabot Alpine 3L, the outer fabric, Bega membrane and inner face are bonded together. On the Urban 2L Shell Coat, it is the outer fabric and membrane, with a lining underneath.
Oppdal: 3L Shell or Insulated?
According to Bergans, choose the 3-layer shell if you want to regulate ventilation yourself, and an insulated model for more warmth. The Oppdal Insulated Shell Jacket contains 80 g/m² of Bergans Arctic Insulation, a synthetic insulation.
What do cuin and 95/5 mean?
Cuin measures the fill power of the down: the higher the value, the better it insulates for its weight. 95/5 means 95% down and 5% small feathers. The Oslo Down Long Coat has 550 cuin at 80/20, the Y LightLine Weightless Down Jacket 850 cuin at 95/5.
Expedition models for women?
The Expedition pieces are unisex and, according to Bergans, cut to men's sizes. Bergans therefore recommends that women go one size smaller. If you take your usual size in the parka, you get an oversized look.
What do Slim, Regular and Relaxed fit mean?
Bergans uses these terms to describe the fit. Slim fit sits close to the body, as with the Ulriken Jumper in wool. Regular fit is neither too tight nor too loose, Relaxed fit loose and comfortable, like the Oslo Down Long Coat.

According to Bergans, Oslo combines timeless design with the weather protection of outdoor clothing. A Bega membrane keeps the Insulated Shell Coat dry, duck down warms the Down Long Coat.
Rabot
According to Bergans, Rabot is made for multi-day hikes in demanding terrain and rough weather. Shell, mid layer and down jacket are designed to be worn as layers.
Oppdal
Oppdal is the ski collection from Bergans, for groomed pistes and powder snow. The jackets have a helmet-compatible hood and ventilation zips under the arms.
Expedition
According to Bergans, the Expedition pieces are built for extreme cold, the Down Suit for high-altitude mountaineering and the Arctic. The windproof outer fabric is reinforced at high-wear areas.
Y LightLine
According to Bergans, Y LightLine is built for fast hiking and long trail runs with lots of climbing. The Weightless Down Jacket Hood weighs 253 g in women's size M and comes with a compression bag.
Y MountainLine
According to Bergans, Y MountainLine is built for hard, steep mountain tours. The Breathe 3L Shell Jacket has a longer back, so it allows freedom of movement even with a harness, rucksack and helmet.
