The backpack also has a lid compartment and two large, patch side pockets with zippers, behind which an open insertion channel can also be used to store tent poles, for example. A sleeping mat can be attached to the compression straps on the base. The gear loops on the lid, front and side pockets can be used to attach additional equipment. The Akela 45 has a PFC/PFAS-free finish.
