Running in autumn: The right clothes
  No matter what time of year it is - running is always possible! To help you run worry-free in the fall, we've put together a few tips that will keep you well-equipped for training in the colder months of the year.
Don't dress too warm
Running down to temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius is no problem, but you should make sure that you wear the right clothes to prevent injuries and colds. The first rule is: don't dress too warm. It sounds strange at first, but your body warms up a lot after a short time of running. Therefore, it is not necessary that you are warm from the beginning. It's best to dress so that you feel a little chilly when you go out. After a few minutes you will notice that your body produces warmth and you will not feel the chill anymore.
It is all about the layers
We recommend the "onion look" , where you simply wear several layers on top of each other and then depending on the temperature and weather, leave out one layer. From the inside out, your running outfit could look like this:
The first layer:
As your first layer, also known as base layer, it's best to wear moisture-regulating sports underwear . Functional materials such as merino wool or special synthetic fiber fabric ensure that the moisture is released to the outside and thus also regulate the heat released, so that your body will not get cold due to the sweat on the skin.
{productlist category="315" limit="4" showprices="1" showsupplier="1" showuvp="1" css="grey" productlist}
The second layer:
{img number="6" align="right" caption="The running pants should fit well. (Photo: Löffler)" img}The second layer consists of a running shirt or top . Here you can choose between sleeveless, short-sleeved and long-sleeved shirts, depending on the temperature. If the fall is still quite sunny and warm, a short-sleeved shirt is more recommended. After all, there is still at least one layer on top. If winter is on the way, you can also go for a long-sleeved shirt . It is important, however, that it should be a shirt made of functional materials, since normal cotton shirts, for example, dry much too slowly and are also much heavier than airier sports tops made of synthetic fibers.
To make sure you can really go for it, a good pair of running pants is essential. The most important thing is that the pants fit really well and don't pinch or chafe at any point, otherwise it's just no fun. In the fall, it's best to run with long, tight-fitting pants with flat seams made of special synthetic fiber materials. This regulates the heat on your legs and prevents them from cooling down or overheating. Other than that, you can't do much wrong here. The main thing is that you feel comfortable in the running pants .
The third and fourth layer:
{img number="7" align="left" caption="Running jackets are especially useful in windy or rainy conditions. (Photo: Halti)" img}Now we come to the third and fourth layer, which constitute the proper "onion look". You can now add an extra midlayer depending on the weather and temperature. This "intermediate layer" insulates particularly well, protects your body from cooling down and is especially recommended when it is already heading towards winter.
In addition, you can then put on a running jacket , for example, if it is rainy or the temperature drops further. You can combine these two layers or wear them separately and adapt your running outfit to all external conditions. But remember: It should not be warm from the beginning, but just a little fresh, so you have exactly the right "operating temperature" during your training.
Don't forget reflectors and a headlamp
{img number="5" align="right" caption="Bright colors make you more visible in the dark. (Photo: Halti)" img}Now we come to a final, but particularly important point: safety . Since many run either early in the morning or after work in the evening, it is likely that you will be out and about when it is dusk or already dark. So we have to make sure that we are seen and of course see enough ourselves. Most running jackets have reflectors that reflect the headlights of cars and make sure that drivers can see you. Also, when running in the dark, go for colorful, bright clothing instead of black. This is simply easier to recognize and stands out more from the surroundings.
In order to not only be seen well by others, but also to better recognize your surroundings, you can also use a headlamp . This way you can see the ground you are running on even on poorly lit paths and avoid tripping or stepping into potholes.

                 Running in the heat: 7 tips to stay cool on summer runs
  Summer's here, the sun is out, and it's a great time to enjoy the outdoors with a run. But as the heat kicks in, your training can quickly turn into a challenge: your cardiovascular system works harder, you sweat more, and the risk of overheating increases. Luckily, a few smart tweaks can make all the difference. Follow these 7 tips, tune into your body, and keep running safely and happily through the hottest months.
1. Run early or late
{img number="2" align="left" caption="Morning and evening runs are the best way to beat the heat." img}Midday sun is no joke — it’s when UV rays and heat are most intense, and your body will definitely feel it. That’s why it’s best to avoid workouts between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Instead, go for a run in the early morning when it’s still cool or in the evening as the day winds down.
Running at these times isn’t just more pleasant — it also helps you maintain consistency in your training routine, even when it’s hot out.
   >> Find the right running gear for every time of day
2. Choose lightweight, light-colored gear
Wearing the right gear makes a world of difference in hot weather. Opt for lightweight, breathable fabrics that wick away sweat and help your body stay cool. Stick to light colors — they reflect sunlight better and prevent extra heat buildup.
Don’t forget your exposed skin. Use a high-SPF sunscreen — SPF 50 or higher — especially on your shoulders, neck, and arms. Sports sunscreens are made to stay put through sweat and won’t sting your eyes.
   >> Check out our breathable running shirts
   >> And take a look at our airy shorts
3. Protect your head
Keeping your head covered is key when training under the sun. Lightweight caps or moisture-wicking headbands help prevent overheating, protect you from sunstroke, and keep sweat from dripping into your eyes. Look for designs with ventilation or reflective details for added comfort and safety.
Pair with sunscreen, and you’ve got a solid defense — whether you’re on the road or the trail.
   >> Discover more caps & headbands for hot days
4. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
{img number="3" align="right" caption="Stay optimally hydrated during long runs with hydration systems." img} Hydration is always essential, but in summer it’s critical . Drink plenty of fluids before you head out, and bring water along for longer sessions. Whether you prefer a hydration belt or pack depends on your style — our hydration systems guide breaks it all down.
Take small sips regularly to keep your circulation stable. If you’re sweating a lot, replenish lost minerals with an electrolyte drink or isotonic solution. A light snack about an hour beforehand — like a banana or oat bar — can also give you a helpful energy boost.
   >> Find your ideal hydration system here
5. Sunglasses? Absolutely.
Your eyes need protection too — even on overcast days. A good pair of running sunglasses shields you from UV rays, reduces glare, keeps bugs out , and helps you see clearly, reducing strain and fatigue.
Choose a pair with a snug fit, well-ventilated lenses, and solid UV protection to stay comfortable and safe.
   >> Browse our wide selection of high-quality running sunglasses
6. Slow down & listen to your body
When it’s hot, going slower is smarter. High temperatures raise your heart rate, reduce your endurance, and push your body harder than usual. Ease up: scale back your pace , allow for longer recovery, and take breaks when your body signals it’s time.
Good form goes a long way, too — short, smooth steps and an upright posture help keep you cool and efficient. Shady trails or routes by rivers are perfect for keeping things comfortable and boosting your mental game. And remember: it’s perfectly okay to pause or even call it a day — it’s not quitting, it’s smart running .
7. Pick the right running shoes
{img number="4" align="left" caption="The right shoes for hot days: breathable, lightweight, and well-cushioned." img} In hot weather, your shoes matter more than ever. Choose breathable, lightweight models with good ventilation to help your feet stay dry and cool.
Many brands now offer summer-specific or ultra-lightweight options tailored for warm weather runs.
Keep in mind that your feet may swell in the heat, so a slightly roomier fit can prevent discomfort. Also check the cushioning — shoes that are too stiff can create pressure points, especially on sun-heated asphalt.
   >> Discover breathable fitness and running shoes now
{paperlist headline="Key takeaways for your summer training" show-on-brand-category="true" items=["Run during cooler times of day","Wear breathable clothing and apply sun protection","Stay hydrated and replenish electrolytes","Adjust your pace and watch for body signals","Choose supportive gear — from shirt to shoes"] paperlist}
Conclusion: Stay cool & train smart
Running in the summer is absolutely doable — and great for both your body and your mood — as long as you run smart. Instead of powering through the heat, adjust your pace, gear up properly, and stay in tune with how you’re feeling .
And if it’s just too hot outside? Switch it up: go for a bike ride or take a swim. It’s still great cardio, just cooler. With the right approach, you’ll stay Fit for your life — all summer long.

                 Bikepacking for beginners & advanced riders - how to get started on your adventure
  Are you keen on nature, exercise and a bit of adventure? Then bikepacking is right up your street. It's not about breaking records or celebrating high-tech equipment - it's about simply setting off. Get on your bike, pack a few things in your bags and discover new trails. Whether you're setting off for the first time or already have a few trips behind you - here you'll find tips, equipment recommendations and a checklist for your next tour.
  What is bikepacking actually?
{img number="3" align="left" caption="Switch off & recharge your batteries - bikepacking gets you out into nature." img}
It's a combination of cycling , adventure and minimalism . You are out and about with light luggage, mostly off the beaten track - on forest paths, gravel roads or trails. The aim is not to get as far as possible, but to experience as much as possible. Unlike classic bike touring, the focus here is not on kilometers, but on being outdoors and experiencing nature first-hand.
  Touring : Longer trips with lots of luggage and classic touring bikes, mainly on roads.
  Bikepacking : Shorter trips (a weekend or a few days), focus on nature and adventure, with minimalist, carefully packed equipment.
{quote author="Bert van Radau" text="Cycling is meditation in motion." quote}
  Which bike is right for bikepacking?
The choice of bike is crucial for your adventure:
  Gravel bike: Ideal for mixed terrain, from asphalt to gravel. Light, fast, comfortable.
  Mountain bike: Ideal for rough terrain and challenging trails. More suspension, more control.
  Important questions when choosing a bike:

  What surface do I want to ride on? Wide tires for gravel & forest, narrower tires for more speed on the road.
  Do I want suspension? Full-suspension bikes offer comfort, rigid bikes save weight and are low-maintenance.

{img number="2" align="right" caption="Smartly packed: frame bag & co. bring your equipment safely to your destination." img}
  The right equipment: what do you need?
Less is more! When bikepacking, pack smart and functional.
  You need these bags:

  Frame bag (frame pack): For heavy, compact luggage (tools, spare parts)
  Handlebar bag (handlebar pack): Ideal for light, bulky items (sleeping bag, sleeping mat)
  Saddle bag (Seat-Pack): Perfect for clothing, toiletries, snacks
  Rear pannier: For medium to heavy, bulky luggage (e.g. tent, food supplies, additional clothing)

Make sure your bags are waterproof and fit tightly - jolting is hugely distracting when riding.

   >> Find the right panniers for your excursions!
  The ideal outfit for your bikepacking tour
Your outfit plays a bigger role in bikepacking than you think - after all, you're sitting in the saddle for hours, sweating, freezing or getting wet. The solution: layering! Opt for functional, breathable clothing that dries quickly and supports you in all weather conditions.

   Baselayer (e.g. merino underwear): Wicks away moisture, warms or cools as required.
   Jersey or functional shirt: Lightweight, breathable and comfortable - preferably with a zipper and pockets.
   Cycling shorts with padding : Your best friend on long rides. Make sure they fit well and have flat seams.
   Wind & rain jacket : Ultralight, packable and absolutely weatherproof.
   Tube scarf : Use it as a scarf, headband or hat.
   Cycling shoes or clipless pedal-compatible models: With good grip and comfortable enough for walking.

Our tip: look out for reflective elements - for safety at dusk and at night. And: less cotton, more function - so you stay pleasantly dry even in the rain and sweat.
{productlist products=["23-2704375083007","570-1913228-999000-8","23-2518382098016","23-2803577506006"] colors=["5083","999000","2098","7506"] showprices="1" showsupplier="1" showuvp="1" css="white" productlist}
  Must-haves for Bikepacking
Whether it's a short trip or a tour lasting several days - these items should not be missing:
  {paperlist headline="This is what you should pack:"  items=["Functional gravel bike clothing (breathable & quick-drying)", "Bike helmet", "Bikepacking bags (frame bag, handlebar bag, saddle bag)", "1-person tent", "Sleeping bag", "Water bottle(s) or hydration system", "Snacks & energy bars", "First aid kit", "Multitool, repair kit, spare inner tube", "Headlamp or bike light", "Toilet paper & bin bag", "Change or debit card", "Shoes for a stop in between"] paperlist}
Conclusion: Start your bikepacking adventure now!
Whether you just want to get away from it all or are looking for the ultimate outdoor freedom - bikepacking takes you out, down and further. The mix of minimalist travel, sporting challenge and nature experience is what makes this form of adventure so special. Start small, try it out and find your own rhythm. The perfect moment for this? Clearly: now!
   >> Discover Rabe clothing & equipment for your next tour!

                <![CDATA[
                 Spring running kickoff? Here's how to find your rhythm after the winter break
  The cold, dark months have sent many runners' motivation into hibernation. But now that the sun is gaining strength and the days are getting longer, your legs might be itching to move: time to get outside, lace up those running shoes, and go! But hold up—getting back into running takes a bit of planning. If you j ump back in too enthusiastically, you can risk more than just sore muscles.
Why you shouldn’t go full throttle right away
{img number="2" align="left" caption="Too much, too soon—often ends in pain." img}After a longer break, your body needs time to readjust to the strain. Especially post-winter, the risk of injury or overuse is particularly high.
Pushing too hard right away can lead to strains or tendon irritation—especially in the calves, thighs, or Achilles tendon. Joints like knees and hips are also more sensitive when training intensity ramps up too quickly. On top of that, too many runs too soon can cause chronic fatigue or even overtraining .
Your heart rate tends to be higher than usual after a break, which is often a clear signal of overexertion. Then there are the small but pesky issues like blisters or chafing—especially if you're using new or long-unused gear.
And let’s not forget: unrealistic expectations can quickly turn excitement into frustration .
{quote author="Jean-Baptiste Corbisier (SIDAS)" text="The biggest risk is that motivation outweighs your body’s physical capacity." quote}
Step by step back into shape
Start with 20 to 30 minutes of light jogging, two to three times a week. Walking breaks are not just okay—they’re smart. After about two or three weeks, you can slowly increase the intensity.
{img number="4" align="right" caption="Start slow and build up week by week." img}A solid way to ease in is with this 4-week walk-run interval plan :
  Week 1 : Walk 4 minutes, jog 2 minutes – repeat 5 times  Week 2 : Walk 3 minutes, jog 3 minutes – repeat 5 times  Week 3 : Walk 2 minutes, jog 4 minutes – repeat 5 times  Week 4 : Jog for 30 minutes nonstop
This approach gives your body enough time to readjust to running. Complement your runs with light strength training that focuses on your core and legs.
Exercises like planks, side planks, or single-leg bridges help stabilize your core and reduce your risk of injury. After running, simple mobility stretches—like for your calves or hip flexors—can help release tension and improve flexibility.
Before each run, get your body warmed up with some dynamic movements: walking lunges, relaxed squats, or lateral shuffles are great options. They’ll get your circulation going and prepare your muscles and joints for action.
   >> Browse our wide selection of running apparel
The right gear makes all the difference
{img number="3" align="left" caption="Choose comfortable, functional running gear." img} Good running shoes are non-negotiable. If your current pair has already logged lots of miles or feels worn down, it’s time for an upgrade. Look for a pair with enough room in the toe box—about half a size to a full size larger than your regular shoes.
Technical running socks can help prevent blisters and keep your feet dry and comfortable. Not sure what kind of shoe you need? Our r unning shoe guide has you covered.
   >> Check out top-brand running shoes here
Ladies should also invest in a supportive sports bra. It protects connective tissue and makes running feel more comfortable. Your clothing should be breathable, weather-appropriate, and ideally have reflective details —especially if you’re running early in the morning or after dark.
Depending on your preferences and how long you run, tech gadgets like a GPS watch or running app can give you that extra boost of motivation. Hydration packs are great additions for longer runs or warmer days.
Bottom line: Patience beats speed
Spring is the ideal time to get back into running. Nature is calling, the temps are just right, and your mind craves movement. But if you want a smooth comeback, the key is patience . Listen to your body, keep your goals realistic, and give yourself the time you need.
{paperlist headline="Key Tips for Getting Back Into Running" items=["Ease in with short, relaxed runs","Gradually increase over a few weeks","Add strength training for support","Warm up dynamically and stretch post-run","Wear the right gear: shoes, clothing, and maybe tech"] paperlist}
Stick to these tips and nothing will stand in the way of your spring running comeback. You’ll find your rhythm again—step by step. That’s what SportFits is all about: “Fit for your life” —at your pace, with joy, and no pressure.

                 Master the Art of Layering: The "Onion Look"
  Are you ready for frosty outdoor adventures? With the right clothing, you can take on any challenge and enjoy your favorite winter sports in comfort. The layering system, often called the "onion principle," is the key to staying warm, dry, and flexible during cold-weather activities. This guide will show you how to dress smartly and adapt to changing conditions.
Why Layering is Essential
Winter weather can be unpredictable—freezing mornings, sunny afternoons, and sudden snowstorms. That’s where the layering system comes in. By layering your clothing , you can easily adjust to temperature changes and activity levels.
The Three Key Layers of the Layering System
1. Base Layer – The Foundation:
{img number="2" align="left" caption="Breathable base layers are lightweight and comfortable." img}Worn directly against your skin, base layers made of merino wool or synthetic fibers wick moisture away, keeping you dry and preventing heat loss. This is crucial to avoid excessive cooling when sweating during activities.
Merino wool naturally regulates temperature and resists odors, while synthetic fabrics dry quickly and efficiently manage moisture.
A high-quality base layer is essential for maintaining a comfortable body temperature in any condition.
    >> Explore breathable base layers
2. Mid Layer – Your Insulating Core:
{img number="3" align="right" caption="Mid layers regulate your body temperature." img}This layer includes insulating garments like fleece sweaters or long-sleeve shirts . They trap body heat by creating a warm air barrier, providing essential insulation. Depending on your activity and the weather, you can adjust the thickness of this layer accordingly.
Lightweight mid layers are perfect for high-intensity activities like ski touring or cross-country skiing, while thicker fleece or down layers are ideal for colder conditions or more relaxed outdoor adventures.
Some mid layers also feature side zippers for ventilation, helping to regulate your body temperature more effectively.
   >> Stay warm and dry with our mid-layer collection
3. Outer Layer – Your Protective Shield:
The outermost layer protects you from wind, rain, and snow, ensuring you stay comfortable even in tough weather conditions. {img number="4" align="left" caption="Hardshell or softshell jackets protect against wind and weather." img} Hardshell jackets offer maximum protection with waterproof and windproof membranes, while softshell jackets provide greater breathability and flexibility.
Softshells are particularly useful for high-movement activities, offering durability against wear and tear from backpacks and harsh weather conditions.
Many models come with additional ventilation zippers and adjustable hoods for enhanced comfort and protection.
   >> Flexible in any weather – check out our outdoor jackets!
Tips for the Perfect Layering System
To ensure comfort and functionality, choose breathable and moisture-wicking materials.
   Merino wool is an excellent option for base layers, as it effectively wicks sweat away while keeping your skin dry. For the mid-layer, fleece or down provides superior insulation and heat retention. GORE-TEX is recommended for the outer layer, as it provides reliable protection against wind and weather and is breathable at the same time. Your base layer should fit snugly, while the mid and outer layers should allow for freedom of movement.
Be sure to always carry an extra insulating layer, especially for breaks or sudden weather changes . You could also prioritize sustainable materials—brands like Ternua and Kathmandu use recycled fabrics and eco-friendly manufacturing processes , making it easy to combine comfort and sustainability.

Ready for Your Next Adventure?
With the right layering system, you’re prepared for any winter activity—stay comfortable, protected, and flexible while making the most of your outdoor experience. Get inspired and gear up for your winter adventures!

                 SummerFit: the best sports for warm days
  Summer at last! The bright sunshine and warm temperatures lure us outside into the fresh air to enjoy the fantastic weather and nature around us. If you like to exercise, now is the perfect opportunity to try out a whole range of sports outside instead of hiding away in stuffy gyms. We introduce you to our favorite summer sports.
Off into the cool water
{img number=“3” align=“left” caption=“Sport is even more fun in a team.” img}When temperatures climb above 25 degrees, there's nothing better than cooling off in the water. But instead of just splashing around, you can also make cooling off a bit more fun: You can explore the river or lake in more detail on a stand-up paddleboard or while kayaking , and you can really put your sporting skills to the test with windsurfing .
Team sports on the beach
If you prefer to stay dry, you can try your hand at beach volleybal l or badminton . The soft sand not only cushions your fall during particularly daring maneuvers, but also provides an additional training session. A few quick games of spikeball , for example, are also great fun in a small space.

Experience nature
{img number=“5” align=“right” caption=“Whether alone or with the family - a bike ride in summer is always fun.” img}Forests and parks also show their best side in summer. Just put on your running shoes and breathable running clothes and enjoy the nature around you. Trail running is a little more challenging, as it involves running over rough terrain and sometimes uphill. But with the right shoes and enough to drink, it becomes a unique experience. Those seeking peace and quiet, on the other hand, will feel particularly at home on hiking trails through the countryside. With a comfortable pair of hiking boots, functional clothing and a rucksack full of drinks and snacks, you're ready to set off.
Out and about on two wheels
Cycling is not only a great way to train your stamina, but also to explore the surrounding countryside. The basic equipment here naturally includes a  helmet , comfortable  clothing  and a bike light for when it gets darker. For longer tours, we also recommend a large water bottle and repair equipment if necessary.     {productlist category=“9” limit=“4” showprices=“1” showsupplier=“1” showuvp=“1” css=“grey” productlist}

                 Ready for the via ferrata? These must-haves belong in your backpack!

  A well-packed backpack is the key to a safe via ferrata experience. It is crucial to choose equipment that not only ensures comfort but also protection. From via ferrata sets and helmets to first aid kits – we'll show you what you should pack in your backpack with the help of a packing list.

The via ferrata adventure begins in your backpack
{img number="2" align="right" img}The via ferrata set , which consists of a special safety system with two carabiners and a shock absorber, is indispensable on a via ferrata tour. The climbing harness is necessary to attach the via ferrata set and move safely along the wire rope. A helmet protects your head from falling rocks and in the event of a fall, while climbing gloves provide a better grip and protect your hands from injuries and blisters.
  Via ferrata shoes with a good tread sole offer you optimum grip and stability on a wide variety of terrain. Carabiners are useful for additional safety and for attaching equipment. A resting loop allows you to rest at the fixed points of the via ferrata if necessary.
The first aid kit is indispensable for minor injuries and emergencies. A headlamp provides the necessary visibility in poor light conditions or if the tour takes longer than planned. And of course, water and snacks are also essential.
  Tip: Instead of a water bottle, you can also use a hydration system , as climbing rucksacks usually have a special compartment to integrate this into the rucksack. The system enables a continuous and uncomplicated supply of fluids without having to stop. This is particularly advantageous on long or demanding tours.
  Not to forget: In addition to an optimally packed rucksack, the outfit is also crucial, whereby a windproof jacket , suitable trousers and a suitable shirt are important. When climbing, the layering-look is often recommended in order to be able to react flexibly to changing weather conditions.

                 Choosing the right clothing size: How to measure correctly!
  You often order clothes online, but you always have the same problem: The clothes arrive, you like them, but unfortunately they are too short, too long, too tight or too wide. We know that can be frustrating. But from now on, there's an end to bad purchases and unnecessary returns - in this magazine article, we show you how to easily determine your own clothing size and always find clothes that fit thanks to correct measurements.
To make sure your new clothes fit perfectly, we recommend using our size charts. The best way to do this is to take a tape measure beforehand to determine your body measurements correctly. The biggest challenge is to place the tape measure in the right places. Here’s how it works:
Correct measurements for upperwear
{img number="4" align="left" caption="Guide the measuring tape around the chest straight but not constricting." img}
To ensure that you order the right size of tops such as sweaters, jackets or T-shirts from now on, you can measure in several different places at once. The measuring tape should be placed close to the body at the same height at each measuring point and should not constrict.
  Chest measurement : Measure once around your body at the widest part of your upper body below the armpits.
  Height : Stand up straight and measure yourself from the top to the bottom in the traditional way. You can also use a folding rule here.
  Waist measurement : Measure just below your belly button.
  Hip measurement : The tape measure should be taken around the widest part of your buttocks.
  Arm length : If you want to be on the safe side with jackets or sweaters, you can also take a look at the arm length. To do this, measure in a straight line from the base of your neck to the top of your shoulder and from there to your wrist. Keep your arm relaxed and slightly bent.
Correct measurements for bottomwear
{img number="3" align="right" caption="Measure at the widest part of your butocks. " img}
Of course, your pants should also fit perfectly and not constrict you anywhere or be the wrong length. Just as with tops, it is important to measure in the right places so that you feel really comfortable in your new trousers later on.
  Hip measurement : Again, measure at the widest part of your buttocks.
  Waist circumference : Measure just below your belly button and make sure that the tape measure is at the same height around your body.
  Inside leg length : To find out the correct length of your trousers, measure from the crotch on the inside of the leg to just below the ankle.
Now that you have all your measurements, you can use our useful aid in the form of the SportFits size charts. They serve as a guide and should help you to choose the right size!
Practical: the SportFits size charts
{img number="2" align="left" caption=" Compare your measurements with the information in the size chart." img}
In our online store, there is a size chart for most items, which you can use to compare the measured sizes with the standard clothing sizes.
You can find this table either at the bottom of the product page or in the list of available sizes by clicking on the "Size advice" button .
For products where a size chart is included, you should definitely use it before placing your order. This way, you can avoid bad purchases as much as possible and reduce the number of unnecessary returns.

  Video instructions: It's that simple
To make the whole thing even easier to understand and to ensure that nothing really stands in the way of choosing the right clothing size, we have prepared a visual guide for you in our video. Have fun measuring and shopping!

                 Cycling in dirty weather
  As April is known to do whatever it wants, this time of year can be a major challenge for cyclists. However, with a few tricks, rain, sleet and cold will not be a problem for you and you can enjoy cycling to the full. We have a few useful tips for your next bike tour in bad weather.

Pay attention to ground conditions
{img number="3" align="right" caption="Wet roads often offer little grip. (Photo: Scott)" img}Depending on the weather, the condition of the surface you are riding on will of course also change. Especially when it rains, asphalt roads suddenly offer less traction and bends that are otherwise no problem can turn into dangerous skids. Uneven surfaces, road gullies, leaves or road markings should also be negotiated very carefully, if at all.
It is also helpful to check the thermometer at home before setting off, as additional caution is required at 0-5°C due to possible ice on the roads. As a measure against poor surface conditions , 1 to 1.5 bar less air than usual in the tires can help. This allows the tire to adapt better to the road surface and the grip is increased.
  Tip : Even if it sounds like a joke, vinegar can be a secret weapon against poor grip. If you rub household vinegar into your bike tire before you set off, it will dissolve grease and improve your grip!
Bad conditions? More caution and safety!
{img number="2" align="left" caption="Visibility can be impaired by fog. (Photo: Gonso)" img}As riding in the rain becomes more difficult due to poor visibility or wet surfaces, it is advisable to adapt your riding behavior accordingly . Anticipatory riding is extremely important in this context, as the braking distance, for example, is significantly longer. Early and moderate braking and keeping more distance than usual are the best options here.
Of course, visibility is also a problem in the rain. It's not just the water coming from above that can make it difficult to see ahead when riding, but also the splashing water that is swirled upwards by the tires. This is where mudguards that protect you from water on your bike, at least from below, are extremely helpful. As it is not only your visibility that is limited in the rain and the surroundings usually appear gray in gray to other cyclists or other road users, you should make sure that you are visible to others at all times. So wear reflective clothing and ideally switch on your lights at any time of day . Not only will you see better yourself, but you will also be seen better by others!
Reach your destination dry and comfortable with the right clothing
{img number="5" align="right" caption="Thanks to a waterproof outfit, you'll stay dry even in the rain. (Photo: Schöffel)" img}Even in bad weather, riding your beloved bike doesn't have to be uncomfortable – it can actually be a lot of fun if you choose the right outfit .
  Rain jackets : Waterproof, breathable rain jackets not only keep you dry, but also protect you from the wind while ensuring that your body temperature remains constant.
  Bib shorts that protect you from the moisture : High-quality cycling shorts with materials that protect you from the wind and wet on the outside and keeps you nice and warm on the inside should not be missing on any ride in the rain!
  Helmet covers : To keep your head dry as well as cool while cycling, it's best to take a helmet cover with you.
  Shoe covers : Cycling with wet feet is simply no fun. That's why you should put on waterproof shoe covers before your bike tour. They will keep your feet dry and warm until you reach your destination!
  If you follow these tips and dress appropriately, nothing will stand in the way of your next bike adventure, even in the current moody weather, and you will be well equipped to get your bike out of hibernation.
   >> You can of course find waterproof cycling clothing from many high-quality brands in our onlineshop
To help you choose the right outfit, we have selected a men's and a women's outfit that will guarantee you fun on your bike even in dirty weather:
Men's outfit from Scott
The Scott Jacket M's RC Weather WP is the perfect jacket for cycling in the rain. Made from waterproof yet highly breathable material, the jacket offers long-lasting protection against the elements. Reflective prints ensure that you can be seen even in poor visibility and are safe on the road in all weather conditions
To ensure that you are also optimally equipped under your jacket, you should opt for a functional long-sleeved jersey. The Scott Shirt M's RC Team 10 LS regulates your body temperature in all weathers and also has three back pockets that offer you plenty of space for your utensils.
What's still missing is a pair of shorts that combine reflective, waterproof and windproof properties. The Scott Bibshorts M's RC Warm WB +++ do just that and keep you nice and warm thanks to the fleece-lining!
To stay dry on top, we recommend putting on a helmet hood like the one from Gonso . It is waterproof and windproof and compatible with all common helmet brands.
The Northwave Acqua Shoecover is the perfect finishing touch to the rain outfit for men. Water-repellent PU coating, thermo-welded seams and the taped inside for additional protection are the perfect attributes for a successful bike ride in the rain. Reflective elements also make you more visible.
Women's outfit from Gonso
{img number="4" align="left" caption="The Sura Light jacket from Gonso is perfect for dirty weather. (Photo: Gonso)" img}The Gonso Sura Light cycling jacket for women offers uncompromising protection against foul weather and is the basis for your next bike tour in the rain. Our tips for more exercise in everyday life
  In the car, in the office, at home on the couch: we spend a large part of our day sitting down. Some of you will have heard that this can lead to a variety of health problems. However, it's not easy to fit workouts and 10,000 steps into a stressful day. That's why we've put together a few tips on how to integrate more exercise without too much effort.
Start small
{img number="3" align="left" caption="Even a few simple exercises will make a difference." img}It's relatively unrealistic to expect you to go from a couch potato to an active sports junkie overnight. To start with, you should set yourself small goals that you can achieve without too much change. For example, take the stairs more often instead of the elevator, walk shorter distances instead of driving, increase your daily step target a little or go for a short walk around the block after work. In this way, you will increase your fitness step by step and soon realize how good a little more exercise can be.
Take active breaks
When you work in an office, you spend most of your time sitting down. A height-adjustable desk or a standing desk that allows you to work standing up from time to time can help here. This gets your blood flow and circulation going again and also relieves the strain on your back. You can also go for a short walk during your lunch break, which also has the advantage that you can get some fresh air and clear your head. But even a few simple stretching exercises in between are good for your legs, back and shoulders.
Having fun is a must
{img number="2" align="right" caption="Team sports are often more motivating." img}In order to really move more in the long term, it's important to find a sport that you really enjoy . If you have to torture yourself every time you go to the gym, you will find it incredibly difficult to achieve your goals. So try out different things and find the motivation to adopt a more active lifestyle all by yourself. Whether it's yoga in the morning, dancing in a group, team sports in the gym, walking in the park or swimming in the outdoor pool - the main thing is that you enjoy sport !

  A little tip on the side : a new, cool Sport[Out]Fit will give you an extra motivational boost!

Why exercise more at all?
Some people want to do something about their back pain, others want to lose weight, others want to counteract other health problems. But why should you do more sport if you don't have any obvious complaints?
There is an almost endless list of reasons for this. For example, more sport in everyday life prevents numerous diseases. Be it cardiovascular diseases, joint weaknesses or obesity with all its consequences, as well as cognitive impairments such as dementia, to name just a few. But mental health also benefits enormously from sufficient exercise. Sport supports your emotional well-being and is an effective mood booster.
Small change - big effect
{img number="4" align="left" caption="Sufficient exercise has an impact on many areas of life." img}If you would also like to exercise more in your everyday life, you should not set your goals too high right from the start and begin by finding joy in sport .
Even small changes can be noticeable: You'll feel fitter, sleep better and are in a good mood more often. If you manage to do more sport in the long term, you will improve your general fitness, prevent countless illnesses and actively and sustainably improve your physical and mental health.

                 Sporty through the year
  Outdoor adventures are fun whatever the weather – at least if you have the right equipment. "There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing", is something we've all heard before. We go even further and say: "There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad equipment", because even the warmest jacket is often not enough. We introduce you to the right basic equipment for every season.

Spring
{img number="9" align="left" caption="In spring, you should be prepared for changes in the weather." img}When the sun comes out more often and nature slowly awakens from hibernation, it's time for outdoor enthusiasts to spend the increasingly long days outside again.
However, you shouldn't get too cocky, as the weather can still change quickly . A good rain jacket, waterproof footwear and a suitable rucksack are therefore essential. We also recommend putting on several layers that you can easily take off and put on again depending on the weather.

Summer
{img number="7" align="right" caption="Lightweight, breathable clothing is important in summer." img}It's finally time again for camping, water sports and long evenings in the fresh air! Lightweight, breathable clothing that protects you from the sun but also from overheating is particularly important in summer. Headgear is just as helpful. Incidentally, you should never do without sufficient sunscreen for your face, décolleté and arms, which you should also reapply regularly.
Your constant companion for hot days should also be a sturdy water bottle to keep you well hydrated. When camping, a reliable tent and a suitable sleeping bag are of course a must.

Autumn
{img number="8" align="left" caption="In autumn, you can enjoy fresh air and colorful canopies." img}In our opinion, the best time of year for long walks . The leaves are colorful, the air is fresh and the sun warms you with its still powerful rays. Nevertheless, you should be careful not to go on longer excursions unprepared.
The paths are often slippery due to lots of rain and falling leaves, which is why your shoes should not only be waterproof, but also have a non-slip sole. Hiking poles provide even more grip. A warm rain jacket and a head torch for the early onset of darkness should also be in your rucksack .

Winter
{img number="6" align="right" caption="In winter you need the most equipment." img}This is our absolute specialty. Depending on what you're planning, you'll need a lot of equipment in winter . Sturdy, warm and waterproof footwear, warm clothing, a water-repellent and insulating winter jacket and warm headgear are important even for smaller excursions. In the snowy mountains, you will probably need even more layers of clothing and warm gloves. As safety is always the top priority, you should always have a headlamp and, if necessary, avalanche equipment to hand. Winter sports enthusiasts also need the right poles, skis, helmets and protectors.

                 Which snowshoe model is right for you?
  Snowshoeing is one of the most popular and fun outdoor activities in winter. However, with so many types of snowshoes available, it can be difficult to know which one is right for you. In this article, we look at the different types of snowshoes and help you find out which model is best suited to your needs.
For leisurely hikes in the snow
{img number="2" align="right" caption="Choose snowshoes depending on the terrain and desired activity. (Photo: Koch alpin / Bernd Ritschel)" img}
The first type of snowshoes are recreational snowshoes. These are perfect for beginners and anyone travelling on flat terrain .
They are characterised by a simple design with a wide frame and a flexible deck that allows for better manoeuvrability. They are often made of aluminium, as it is lightweight yet robust.
Recreational snowshoes are also usually less expensive than other types of snowshoes, making them a good choice for beginners.
   >> Get to know the Tubbs Panoramic models
Mountain hikes in the snow
{img number="3" align="left" caption="Good bindings and climbing aids are particularly important when ascending and descending. (Photo: MSR / Scott Rinckenberger)" img}
The second type of snowshoes are all-terrain snowshoes. These models are designed for advanced snowshoe hikers and are intended for use on steep and rough terrain .
They have a narrow frame and a more rigid deck , which promises more stability and support than snowshoes for recreational use. Many models also offer special technologies, such as the Fit-Step™ 2.0 frames from Tubbs or special climbing aids such as the Ergo™ Televator climbing aids from MSR, which make ascent and descent easier. These serve to maximise support and enable comfortable walking.
  Important: Pay close attention to the bindings! They should be easy to adjust and fit tightly with every movement. After all, you don't want to lose your shoes in the middle of your tour. Here, too, brands often offer their own technologies such as the Tubbs DynamicFit™ 2.0 binding or the MSR Paragon™ binding with cold-resistant mesh straps that adapt to any footwear.

For ambitious runners

The third type of snowshoes are running snowshoes. They are designed for those who want to jog or run in the snow .
They have a narrow and lightweight design that allows for a faster pace and more maneuverability. Running snowshoes also have a more aggressive crampon system than other types of snowshoes, which provides better traction on hard snow and ice.

                 The big SportFits sleeping bag guide
  Whether you're an experienced camper or an outdoor novice, a good quality sleeping bag is essential for a comfortable and restful night's sleep. With a multitude of sleeping bags on the market, choosing the right model for your needs is not always easy. In this guide, we look at the different types of sleeping bags, the materials used, which sleeping bag is best for which season, and how you can best clean and store your sleeping bag.
The shape
{img number="2" align="left" caption="All variations have their own unique qualities." img}
There are three main types of sleeping bags: rectangular, mummy-shaped and semi-rectangular.
  Rectangular sleeping bags are the most common and offer the most room to move.
  Mummy sleeping bags , on the other hand, are more tapered and fit close to the body, making them ideal for colder weather.
  Semi-rectangular sleeping bags are a combination of both and offer some room to move while still providing warmth.

The material
{img number="3" align="right" caption="Down or synthetic? Depends on the area of use! (Photo: Marmot)" img}
Sleeping bags are typically made of either down or synthetic materials.
Down is a natural insulator that offers an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio and compressibility. However, down sleeping bags can be quite expensive and lose their insulating properties when they get wet.
Synthetic materials, on the other hand, are cheaper and retain their insulating properties even when wet . However, they are bulkier and heavier than down sleeping bags.
   >> Find your down sleeping bag
   >> Discover synthetic sleeping bags

The right sleeping bag for summer and winter
{img number="4" align="left" caption="Pay attention to the temperature class of the sleeping bag. (Photo: Nordisk)" img}
Sleeping bags are classified according to the lowest temperature for which they are suitable. The three main seasonal classifications are summer, three-season and winter .
Summer sleeping bags are designed for warmer weather and usually have a temperature rating of -1°C or higher .
Three-season sleeping bags are designed for spring, summer and autumn and usually have a temperature rating of around -9°C to -1°C .
Winter sleeping bags are designed for lower temperatures and usually have a temperature rating of -9°C or lower .
The colder it gets, the more important the sleeping pad is! Because then it not only provides comfort, but also protects you from the cold from below.
   >> Find a suitable sleeping pad

Special sleeping bags
{img number="5" align="right" caption="Sleeping bags also come in special variations. (Photo: Therm-A-Rest)" img}
Besides the well-known outdoor sleeping bags, there are also special types: Bivy sacks and hut sacks, for example.
  Bivy bags are wind- and waterproof bags that protect you from cold and wet weather and are perfect for nights in the open air . Combined with a regular sleeping bag, they offer extra protection and can even extend the life of your sleeping bag as the bivy acts as an extra layer of protection.
   >> Shop bivy bags
  Travel sleeping bags , as the name suggests, are not made for use in the outdoors. They are much thinner and are often used together with blankets for cabin stays in autumn and winter.
   >> Discover travel sleeping bags, liners and matching blankets
Cleaning and storage
{img number="6" align="left" caption="With the right care, you can significantly extend the life of your sleeping bag. (Photo: Marmot)" img}
Proper cleaning and storage of your sleeping bag is important to maintain its longevity and functionality . In general, you should always follow the manufacturer's instructions. However, we have a few general tips for you:
If necessary, clean your sleeping bag with a damp cloth and mild soap .
If your sleeping bag is machine washable, make sure you use a mild detergent. It is also advisable to use the gentle cycle in colder water to avoid damaging your sleeping bag.
Hang the sleeping bag to dry or use a standard tumble dryer on a low setting. However, a high heat setting should be avoided at all costs as it can damage the insulation. For this reason, you should not dry your sleeping bag on the heater, but simply in the air.
When storing your sleeping bag, hang it up or stuff it into a large cotton bag to prevent it from being compressed. Some sleeping bags even come in their own bags. By the way, storing it for a long time in a small stuff sack is not ideal, as this can also damage the insulation.
  Pro tip: Some manufacturers, such as Nordisk, offer a special cleaning service for their sleeping bags!

                 How to care for your running shoes
  Runners know that choosing the right shoes is crucial. Once you have found the perfect pair, you naturally want to use them for as long as possible. We show you how you can significantly extend the life of your favourite shoes with the right care.
Clean running shoes properly
{img number="2" align="left" caption="With the right care, you can significantly increase the lifespan of your running shoes." img}
After each run, give your shoes a quick wipe with a damp cloth to remove any stains or mud. If your shoes are particularly dirty, you can use a soft-bristled brush with mild soap to gently scrub off the dirt. However, it is important not to use strong chemicals as they can damage the material in the long term.
Some manufacturers advertise that their running shoes are also machine-washable . This makes it particularly easy for you. If this is not the case, the washing machine should not be used.
  Tip: If your running shoes smell strongly, you can use special freshening sprays.
   >> Care products for shoes
Dry & store running shoes correctly
{img number="3" align="right" caption="Pay attention to the enclosed care instructions! (Photo: Puma)" img}
Although it may sound tempting, never put your running shoes in the dryer as the heat can deform and damage the shoes. Instead, air dry your shoes after cleaning, but keep them out of direct sunlight. Remove the insoles and laces and stuff the shoes with newspaper or a towel. This will keep them in the desired shape.
If your running shoes are not going to be used for a long time, for example in winter, store them in a cool and dry place . Moisture promotes the growth of bacteria and mould, so it's a good idea to store your shoes in a cupboard. Alternatively, you can store them in a box or in a separate compartment in your sports bag. Make sure that the shoes are not crushed !
When is it time for a change?
{img number="4" align="left" caption="New running shoes are a milestone and can have a positive effect on your motivation! (Photo: UYN)" img}
Even with proper care or new insoles, running shoes eventually wear out and lose support and cushioning. In this case, there is no way around replacement. As a general rule, running shoes should be replaced every 400 to 850 kilometres . However, this also depends on your running style, the terrain, your body weight and the individual shoe models.
For this reason, you should regularly check your running shoes for signs of wear . This includes not only obvious holes and tears in the material, but also wear and tear on the sole or a noticeable decrease in cushioning.

                 How to wax your own skis!
  If you want to enjoy your skis for a long time, you should care for them regularly. An important point here is waxing the skis. Only when the base is in good condition can the skis perform well on the slopes. Many people have their skis serviced by a professional, but you can also wax your skis yourself. It's easier than you might think. We'll explain the options available to you and how they work. Let's go!
Hot or cold wax: What's the difference?

There are basically two options for ski waxing: Cold wax and hot wax. The first difference is obvious. Cold wax is applied cold, hot wax has to be heated. The treatment with hot wax is therefore associated with more effort and requires the necessary equipment, while the application of cold wax is quick and uncomplicated.
{img number="2" align="right" caption="Hot wax is more time-consuming, but more lasting." img}
However, the quality of the result also differs in the end. Cold wax is less abrasion resistant and therefore needs to be renewed more often. Hot wax, on the other hand, can penetrate deeper into the pores of the surface through heating and thus keeps it smooth for much longer.
Additionally, there are waxes that are specially designed for certain snow conditions. However, an ordinary universal wax is often completely sufficient.
Which method is right for you?
For occasional skiers who usually only spend one or two days at a time on the slopes, the cold wax treatment is probably enough. You don't need any additional equipment and can simply apply the wax before your ski day.
However, if you ski more often and for a longer period of time, it is worth the effort to use hot wax . The wax layer remains smooth for much longer and does not need to be constantly renewed.
Advantages and disadvantages at a glance

Cold wax
Hot wax

+ quick, uncomplicated application
- needs to be renewed much more frequently

- more complex to use - more equipment necessary
+ lasts significantly longer

Ski waxing with hot wax
  {paperlist headline="This is what you need" items=["ski wax","i ron (preferably one for wax)","plastic scraper","nylon brush","microfibre cloth","Fixation for ski"] paperlist}
Preparation
First, fix your skis with the underside facing upwards and tighten the brakes of the bindings with a rubber band so that they do not interfere with waxing. Use a cloth to remove the coarse dirt from the base.
Waxing
  {img number="1" align="right" caption="When waxing, you always work from the tip of the ski towards the tail of the ski." img} Then set the wax iron to the correct temperature . This is around 130°C, but is usually specified by the wax manufacturer on the packaging.
Once the iron is ready for use, heat the wax on it and let it drip down the entire length of the ski. Then iron the wax into the base. When doing this, make sure that you don't stay in one place for too long - just like when ironing shirts - but keep moving. When the wax is evenly distributed over the entire ski, let the ski cool down for about 15 to 30 minutes.
Finish
Once the ski has cooled down completely, the excess wax is removed with a plastic scraper . To do this, pull the blade backwards from the tip of the ski several times with pressure. These blades often have small recesses at the corner. These are there to remove the wax residue from the edges. Finally, brush the ski again lightly with a nylon brush - again from front to back - and wipe away the remaining dust with a microfibre cloth. That's it!
  {video src="rbcEjhdicS0" title="Alpine: Hot Waxing" caption="The experts from TOKO show how waxing with hot wax works." css="grey" video}
Ski waxing with cold wax
  {paperlist headline="This is what you need" items=["ski wax","polishing felt or cork","cloth"] paperlist}
Waxing with cold wax is less time-consuming. But here, too, the first step is to fix the ski and remove dirt with a cloth. Then the cold wax is applied directly to the base . You should make sure that the wax is evenly distributed. Then it is worked in with a polishing felt or cork. Done!
Cold wax is often available as a practical stick with the polishing felt already integrated. Alternatively, there are now liquid waxes or ski wax sprays that are just as easy to apply as the classic cold wax.
{video src="ez-7XgZAAQI" title="Natural ski wax stick" caption="Quick and easy: this is how waxing works with the Natural Skiwax Stick from Holmenkol." css="grey" video}
When and how often?
Finally, when should you wax your skis?
Of course, you can wax them at the start of the season and hit the slopes with a fresh base. Alternatively, the end of the season is a good time to wax your skis before they go into storage for the summer. On the one hand, the applied wax layer serves as rust protection , and on the other hand, you are ready to go as soon as the first snow falls.
Depending on how often you ski, you may also need to wax during the season. As mentioned above, you will also need to wax more often if you use cold wax. If the base feels rough and the colour looks greyish or dull , it's time for a new waxing treatment.
  Of course, you can find everything you need for ski waxing in our shop!

                 Trending sport trail running: the best way to get started
  Trail running has been growing in popularity for years and is now even considered a trend. But beginners should know that thorough preparation and the right equipment are extremely important for this sport! We show you how to train for your first trail run and what gear is essential.
Strengthens the body and calms the soul
{img number="5" align="left" caption="Trail running has become a real trend sport." img}
Running promotes health in many ways: It strengthens the muscles , increases fitness, and helps to switch off.
Since running in alpine terrain requires a particularly high level of concentration and attention , there is no time for daydreaming or distracting thoughts. The focus remains constantly on the ground and your own body. There is no room for bad moods or worries.
Trail running is also physically beneficial. It enables experienced runners to increase their fitness even further and at the same time improve their sense of balance .
However, trail running requires a certain basic level of fitness , which you should not underestimate! But the effort is worth it, because trail running rewards you with breathtaking views and beautiful nature.
{productlist category="319" supplier= limit="4" showprices="1" showsupplier="1" showuvp="0" css="grey" productlist}
  Preparing for the first trail run
{img number="1" align="right" caption="Good preparation is enormously important." img}
  Physical training ideally starts many months before the planned trail run to ensure optimal basic fitness and technique. Regular sessions are a basic requirement. Three to four sessions per week with a mix of cardio , strength training, and coordination exercises are recommended.
  Loose running for 30 to 60 minutes will increase your fitness. Especially if you already train on uneven terrain and different natural surfaces. Important: Running uphill puts extra stress on joints and ligaments. That's why it's crucial to use a midfoot strike and not heel or forefoot strike.
  A resilient musculature is just as important in trail running as a good level of fitness. For this reason, you should include strength training in your training plan about twice a week. In addition to your legs, you should also train your core, as a stable trunk improves your running economy. Exercises such as squats, push-ups, planks and lunges are recommended.
   Balance exercises are also part of the basic training to improve your surefootedness. If you have been training like this continuously for several weeks or months, it makes sense to include interval sports sessions to push yourself further.
  What many people forget about when training is recovery . It is very important to give your body enough time to recover. Otherwise, you will be completely exhausted before your first trail run.
    >> Discover sports outfits for your training
{productlist category="105" supplier= limit="4" showprices="1" showsupplier="1" showuvp="0" css="grey" productlist}
  The right equipment is half the battle
{img number="2" align="left" caption="Brands like Karpos and many more have collections specifically for trail runners." img}
  No matter how fit you are, trail running can quickly become a risk with the wrong shoe. For this reason, you should pay attention to quality in this area. The footwear must be resistant and robust and offer good grip on different terrains. In addition, it must protect your foot as much as possible while walking and running and support your balance. Cheap products often cannot guarantee these qualities sufficiently. Therefore, you should definitely buy shoes for trail running that have been specially designed for this challenging sport.
    >> Discover trail running shoes
  When it comes to the outfit , the following applies: It must be breathable and should regulate perspiration well so that you don't suffer from hypothermia or overheating at higher altitudes. Light jackets that protect you from rain or cooler temperatures should also be designed for your needs as a runner.
  Every trail running outfit should also include a backpack . It should be particularly light and have a capacity of around 8 litres. An integrated hydration system would also be ideal.
{productlist category="559" supplier= limit="4" showprices="1" showsupplier="1" showuvp="0" css="grey" productlist}
Packing list for trail running
{img number="3" align="right" caption="Choose a lightweight backpack with enough space. You can find suitable models at brands like Salewa." img}
  As with any off-road excursion, there are a few essentials you must not forget. In addition to food , this also includes appropriate weather protection and coordination aids .
  Especially if you are running off the beaten track, you should have a fitness watch or a smartphone with GPS function with you, as well as maps that you can view offline. That way you won't get lost even if reception is poor.
  Don't forget: At altitudes above 1800 metres, there are no more shady forests and the sun's rays are much stronger. Therefore, you should protect yourself adequately with headgear , sunglasses and sunscreen.
    >> Find the right trail running backpack
{paperlist headline="Packing list for trail running" items=["First aid kit","Sun protection","Light wind jacket","Rain protection","Change of shirt","Snacks","Bottle or hydration system with sufficient water","Cash","Smartphone","Coordination aid/map","Heart rate monitor, if needed"] paperlist}
  Different forms of trail running
{img number="4" align="left" caption="Brands like CRAFT develop shoes specifically for trail runners." img}
  Did you know there are different subcategories? The most natural form of trail running is also called cross trail . Here you are running in nature with uphill and downhill gradients. Often mountain bike or hiking trails serve as running routes. In comparison, cross running , also called city trail, is the most common, because not everyone lives near the mountains. In this form of trail running, you run alternately on asphalt and field or forest paths.
  Experienced runners dare to cross adventure in alpine terrain, which can also include ferrata sections. Alternatively, they try their hand at so-called ultra-trails , where distances of over 45 kilometres are covered. That is far more than many marathons! Cross speed takes place at competition level. Here the focus is on speed and the goal is to meet or beat set times. So there is a challenge for every level of experience.
   Important: When running in nature, you should of course be aware of the environment. Therefore you should stay on designated paths and be respectful to the animals and plants around you!

                 The correct care for your shoes
  Shoes accompany us in all activities - whether its hiking, on the way to work, or in everyday life. Occasionally, we even wear them all day long. Therefore, to enjoy your shoes for a long time, it's important to take good care of them. In this article, you will find some care tips from shoe specialist Dolomite. The Italian outdoor brand has been known for its high-quality hiking and multifunctional shoes for more than 120 years.
More longevity for your shoes
{img number="9" align="left" caption="With the right care, your shoes will last much longer." img} Experts know: Care and proper cleaning maintain the quality and functionality of your shoes in the long term. Proper shoe care is also a way towards more sustainability . If products are used for as long as possible , we take a step away from the "throwaway society" concept. Therefore, you should pay attention to the quality, durability, and longevity of products during purchase.
With the right treatment, Dolomite's high-quality multifunctional and outdoor shoes can be worn for up to ten years. The professionals at Dolomite have gathered some tips, on how this longevity can be achieved. The outdoor brand from Italy has been producing robust and high-quality shoes for over 120 years already.
   >> More about the Dolomite brand
  Important: The right care depends on the material of the shoes! A synthetic shoe needs a different treatment than shoes made of suede or full-grain leather, for example.
Step 1: Shoe preparation
{img number="3" align="right" caption="First, the shoes have to dry properly." img} Before starting the actual care process, the shoes need to be prepared accordingly. At this step, all materials still receive the same treatment. First, the shoes must be left to air dry. But be careful: direct sunlight, radiators, or other sources of heat can damage the shoes , as leather and synthetics can dry out and adhesives in the shoes or soles could dissolve.
Additionally, you should remove the laces and insoles, so that the actual lining is ventilated better. This will also allow you to check if they are still in good condition.
Step 2: Shoe cleaning and care
Full-grain leather shoes
One of the most popular materials for shoes worldwide is leather. It's extremely hard-wearing, durable, and adapts well to the foot . However, since leather is a "living" material, it requires a certain amount of care to retain its positive qualities and to prevent cracking or stiffening.
  This is how you clean leather shoes:
{img number="6" align="left" caption="Use a brush to remove dirt from leather shoes." img} First, brush the outer surfaces of the air-dried shoes with a soft brush to remove dust and remnants of dried earth. For stubborn mud stains, you can moisten the brush or use a para rubber.
Once the leather shoes are clean and dry, apply a leather care cream or waterproofing cream to the surface. You can use a soft brush for this. Alternatively, you can also use an old wool sock. But be aware that excessive use of shoe polish can make the surface too soft and deformable. In addition, the leather may become slightly darker after treatment with a waterproofing agent.
After the care process, you should let the shoes rest for a few hours. This allows the products to be fully absorbed. Finally, you should polish the leather shoes before putting the insoles and laces back in.

Suede and suede leather shoes
In addition to full-grain leather, suede and suede leather are also extremely popular materials for shoes. Suede is particularly comfortable and soft but requires regular and thorough care.
  This is how you clean suede shoes:
{img number="2" align="right" caption="Suede shoes are cleaned with a damp cloth" img} Suede shoes are cleaned with a damp cloth to remove dirt. Stubborn dirt such as mud and soil residue can be removed with a hard-bristled brush .
Once the shoes are clean and dry, you can waterproof them. Unlike full-grain leather, suede is not treated with shoe polish but with a spray . To apply the waterproofing spray, shake it well before applying two coats onto the surface from about 20 centimeters distance*. After a drying time of around five minutes, repeat the process and then leave the shoes for a few hours to allow complete absorption. In the end, you can put the soles and laces back in.
   >> Waterproofing spray for suede shoes by Dolomite
  * When using care products, always follow the manufacturer's instructions for use!
Synthetic Shoes
{img number="4" align="left" caption="Synthetic shoes can be cleaned with water." img} Synthetic materials are especially popular for sports shoes. They offer abrasion resistance and are lightweight . Additionally, they are easy to clean.
  This is how you clean synthetic shoes:
As a rule, water is sufficient for cleaning synthetic shoes (running water, if possible). Stubborn dirt can be removed with a soft brush .
Even more effective is the use of special foams for synthetic materials . To maintain the water-repellent properties of the shoes, a waterproofing spray can also be used. Before wearing the shoes again, you should wait a few hours until all care products have been absorbed and the shoes have dried properly.
Don't forget the inside!
{img number="5" align="right" caption="Insoles should be cleaned regularly." img} The insides of shoes - i.e. the insoles and the lining - need care and cleaning just as much as the outside. This is the only way to avoid premature abrasion and the spread of bacteria . The actual treatments depend on the materials.
If the lining is made out of synthetic material , it can simply be cleaned with a warm, damp cloth. Afterward, simply leave it to air dry.
Cleaning is particularly important if the inside of the shoe is lined with leather , as sweating produces acids that can damage the material. The first step is to clean the inside with a warm, damp cloth. After drying, you can apply a thin layer of waterproofing cream.
  Insoles should be cleaned regularly, preferably after every use. To clean the insoles, take them out of the shoe, clean them thoroughly with a damp cloth, and then leave them out to air dry. Depending on how often you wear the shoes, experts recommend replacing the insides at least once a year.
Step 3: Storage
{img number="7" align="left" caption="Newspaper sheets keep the shoes in shape." img} If you plan to leave your shoes unused for a long time, you should remove the insoles and stuff the shoes with newspaper , especially around the toes. This will help the shoes retain their original shape.
It is also advisable to store the shoes in a dark and dry place at a constant temperature. The best way to do this is to use the original box, in which you can cover the shoes with tissue paper.

                 Size Guide for Clothing and Shoes
  What size do I need? This question is sometimes not so easy to answer, especially when buying online. There are international unisex sizes, European sizes and French sizes as well as UK and US sizes - to name just a few. Because it is easy to lose track of all the different numbers, we have summarized the most important information and tips for converting the most common sizes.
Clothing sizes
Very different size systems can be used for clothing. While the international unisex sizes - i.e. Small (S), Medium (M), Large (L) - are still quite easy to classify, it gets more complicated with the numbers. For example, for one woman the sizes 38, 10, 8, 42 or 40 can fit, depending on whether the European, British, American, Italian or French size is meant. Therefore, when choosing a size, you should always pay close attention to which system is used .
For comparison and conversion you can find the different size systems for women and men here. However, the tables only serve as an orientation . Depending on the manufacturer, the sizes may vary.

Special case: Pants
With pants , things can get a bit more complicated. Because the ratio of hip circumference and leg length does not always match the clothing size, a further distinction is often made here between short, normal and long sizes . For European sizes, most manufacturers halve the standard sizes (for short sizes) or double them (for long sizes). A standard size 40 thus becomes a short 20, and a long 80. Long and short sizes are also available for tops.
Alternatively, inch sizes are also used for pants. These indicate the waist circumference and the inner leg length in inches. For example, size 34/32 for men indicates that the waistband is 34 inches (~86 cm) wide and the inner leg is 32 inches (~81 cm) long. This corresponds approximately to the European clothing size 50.
Children sizes
{img number="3" align="right" caption="Children's sizes are based on body size (© Bergans)" img}Clothing sizes for children are primarily based on body size . The sizes range from 50 to 176, i.e. for children up to a height of 176 centimeters. Some manufacturers also give the age as a guideline, for example "9-12 months". However, you should bear in mind that age specifications for sizes are based on the average physique of the respective age and therefore do not fit all children.

  Shoe sizes
The size for shoes is usually given in EU, UK or US sizes . For ski boots there is also the Mondopoint size. The basis for all sizes are again your own measurements, so primarily the foot length.
Measuring your foot length
To determine your foot length, stand up straight on a piece of paper and draw the outline of your foot with a pencil. Then measure the distance from the heel to the tip of the foot , i.e. to the end of the longest toe.
{img number="5" align="right" caption="For hiking boots, add 1.5 to 2 cm to the foot length. (© La Sportiva)" img}To ensure that there is enough room in the shoe in the end, add about 1.5 to 2 centimeters to the length for hiking boots and running shoes . For casual shoes, an addition of 1 to 1.5 centimeters is sufficient for the inside length. The foot length with the extra clearance is called the "last length" . It is different for climbing shoes. Since here there should usually be no space at the front of the toes, the foot length usually corresponds to the inside length of the shoe.
Calculating the shoe size
With the foot and last length you can now calculate your shoe size. To determine the European shoe size , multiply the last length in centimeters by the value 1.5. For example, a last length of 28 centimeters results in size 42.
For UK sizes , the last length is usually also used as a reference point. For adults, take the last length in inches, multiply it by 3, and then subtract 25. For children, you just subtract 12 instead of 25. For our example, the last length of 28 centimeters equals about 11 inches. The 11 inches times 3 is 33. When you subtract 25, you get the size 8.
{paperlist headline="Formulas for calculating the shoe size" items=[" EU sizes:  last length (cm) x 1,5"," UK sizes:  last lenght (in) x 3 – 25 resp. for kids: last length (in) x 3 – 12","(Last length = foot length + 1,5 cm)"] paperlist}
If you don't like to calculate the size yourself, you can simply use our size configurator to find the right size. Attention: These are rounded values!
{configuratorgroup "configurators":[ { "name":"$height", "label":"Foot length", "type":"slider", "min":21, "max":35, "default":25, "steps":1, "unit":"cm" } ], "outputs":[ { "name":"$eu", "formula":"round(1.5*($height.value+1.5))" }, { "name":"$uk", "formula":"round(1.18*($height.value+1.5)-25)" }], "resulttext":"For a foot length of $height.value cm we recommend EU size $eu and UK size $uk" configuratorgroup}
  US sizes are also based on length in inches, but depending on the manufacturer, sometimes based on foot length and sometimes based on last length. The calculation is also more complicated, because there are different zero points for women, men and children. Our tip: For US sizes, just check the manufacturer's size chart . That way you can find out which size is the right one, even without having to calculate.

  Again, the sizes may vary depending on the manufacturer. The tables therefore only serve as orientation.
Mondopoint for ski boots
Mondopoint sizes are mostly used for ski boots . These simply correspond to the foot length and are specified in millimeters or centimeters , depending on the manufacturer. So with a foot length of 26.5 centimeters, you need size 265 or 26.5. Mondopoint sizes are usually available in 5-millimeter increments (260 / 265 / 270 / 275, etc.).
Attention: The Mondopoint size refers to the foot length and thus to the inner dimensions of the shoe. It must not be confused with the sole length ! This refers to the outer dimensions of the ski boot and is needed to adjust the binding. The sole length can often be read off the outside of the boot.
Individual size charts of the manufacturers
{img number="8" align="right" caption="The size charts are linked with the products" img}Especially when buying online, it is helpful to know your own measurements. This makes it easier to choose the right size. To make sure that the selected garment or shoes fit, it is best to compare your measurements with the individual size charts of the manufacturers . After all, there are often differences here as well. The same size can be different for two brands. The respective size charts are linked to each product and are also listed in detail under the product description. There you will also find tips on how to measure correctly.

                 What to Pack for a Hiking Tour
  Whether in the mountains or on a trip through the local forests, when hiking you usually have some luggage with you. Depending on the tour sometimes more, sometimes less. But since you have to carry everything you take with you, you should always limit yourself to the bare essentials and keep your backpack as light as possible. We tell you what should not be missing in your hiking backpack.
As little weight as possible
{img number="2" align="right" caption="The backpack should be kept as light as possible." img}When packing your hiking backpack , you should always keep an eye on the weight. If you limit yourself to the essentials, you'll spare your back and avoid tedious rummaging through stuffed backpacks.
As a rule of thumb, the weight of your gear should not exceed 20 to 25 percent of your body weight . Whether or not you can push this limit depends on your personal fitness level.
   >> What size should a hiking backpack have?
Change of clothes
{img number="4" align="left" caption="Pack sacks help keeping things tidy." img}What is necessary for a hike depends on the planned tour. Based on the weather, you should wear the appropriate clothing, or have it with you. With the layer principle you are particularly flexible. The layers that you don't need at the moment are stowed in your backpack. This is especially true when hiking in the mountains. It is often colder on the mountain than in the valley and the weather can change more quickly. Therefore, even on warm days, pack a warming layer and, if necessary, a rain jacket . In summer, suitable sun protection and headgear are also important. When hiking through snow, on the other hand, gaiters are recommended.
Depending on the tour, a change of clothes (e.g. shirt or socks) may also be useful. This applies, for example, to people who perspire easily. But also in heavy rain it is pleasant to be able to exchange soaked clothes for dry ones. The wet or sweaty items can be easily stowed in waterproof pack sacks without getting the rest of the backpack contents wet. The practical bags also help to keep order in the backpack and find individual items more quickly.
Provisions for the road
{img number="6" align="right" caption="You should always have enough fluids and food with you." img}On a day trip, food should not be missing. Here it is worth taking a look at the route description in advance. If there are no refreshment stops, you need to take more with you. This also applies to drinks. Especially on warm days and on strenuous tours, it is important to have enough to drink, whether in a water bottle or in an integrated hydration system with a bladder. With practical water filters, the water supply can be refilled on the go without hesitation.
To avoid waste, it's best to pack your provisions in a suitable lunch box . Alternatively, you can also take a small garbage bag with you, in which you collect the garbage and take it back down to the valley.
Prepared for everything
{img number="3" align="left" caption="A first aid kit should not be missing in any backpack." img}On longer tours, headlamps are useful companions. Especially in autumn and winter, it often gets dark faster than you think. Also a first aid kit should not be missing in any hiking backpack. The more demanding and longer the tour, the better equipped it should be. Blister plasters are always a good idea as well.
On the way, you often pass beautiful places that invite you to take a break. But there is not always a bench to sit on. This is where seat cushions come into play. These can be packed small and are a practical seat, especially when the ground is still damp.
Especially on mountain tours, hiking poles are also helpful. Foldable poles and telescopic poles can be easily attached to the outside of the backpack when they are no longer needed. If you use your smartphone as a route planner or for orientation, make sure that the battery is charged and lasts long enough. If in doubt, pack a power bank or a spare battery.
Packing List
Here we have summarized at a glance what you should have in your hiking backpack for a day tour:
{paperlist headline="Packing list for a day trip" items=["rain jacket","warming mid layer/fleece jacket","change of clothes","headband/hat or cap","sunglasses or gloves if needed","food","bottle or drinking system with enough water","first aid kit","blister plasters","sun protection","handkerchiefs","hiking poles","headlamp","GPS device/map material/charged phone","pocket knife","rain cover for backpack","maybe pack sacks","maybe seat cusion"] paperlist}
