Buying running shoes: everything you need to know to find the perfect shoes!
  Choosing the right running shoe is the first step to your morning jog or ambitious marathon run. But with so many models, brands and technologies on the market, athletes are often faced with a mountain of questions before making a purchase. In this article, we want to help you with a few criteria and make it easier to choose the right running shoe for you!
Characteristic features of running shoes
In order to find your way around the world of running shoes, you should know some of the most important features that differentiate one model from another:
  Stability: the stability of running shoes plays a crucial role in supporting the foot and correcting misalignments. Shoes with greater stability are particularly suitable for runners with overpronation or supination. These two terms are often used when talking about running shoes. Overpronation refers to the strong inward bending of the foot, while supination refers to rolling over the outside of the foot. Shoes with more stability help to prevent exactly this kind of bending - which greatly reduces the risk of injury.
  {img number="5" align="right" img} Cushioning: The cushioning of a running shoe reduces the impact forces when jogging and thus protects the joints. This is ensured by various technologies that manufacturers incorporate into the sole.
  Drop: The term "drop" is often used in connection with running shoes. This refers to the difference in height between the forefoot and heel area of the shoe. A drop of 8 millimetres, for example, means that the heel is 8 millimetres higher than the forefoot.
  Weight: The weight of running shoes has a significant influence on your running experience: lighter shoes allow you to run faster and more effortlessly, while heavier models often promise more stability and cushioning.
   >> You can find shoes for every running adventure here
Your physical requirements and preferences
Every runner has their own anatomical characteristics and preferences when it comes to running. That's why there is no one perfect running shoe for everyone. But don't worry, there are a few criteria that will help you find exactly the right companion for your next run!
  Body weight: The heavier the runner, the more pronounced the cushioning should be, as more mechanical forces act on the joints. This improves your running sensation and minimizes your risk of injury.
  Foot shape: Every foot has an individual shape that places different demands on the running shoe. For example, if you have an extremely wide foot, there are manufacturers who offer extra wide running shoes. If you have a narrow foot, look for narrow shoes, otherwise you won't find any support. However, there is no generally applicable measurement here. Special running socks can also help you to optimize support in the shoe.
{img number="2" align="right" caption="Stability and grip are particularly important off-road." img} Surface: When buying running shoes, the surface on which you primarily run is an important factor. Different running shoes are optimized for different surfaces - your running shoe should therefore be adapted to the intended area of use. Asphalt requires shoes with good cushioning and grip, while trail running shoes for uneven terrain are equipped with treaded soles and stable materials. For indoor running or track training, lightweight shoes with flat soles and less cushioning are ideal.
  Individual running style: Your running style also determines which shoe you feel most comfortable in. A distinction is made between forefoot runners and heel runners. Heel runners land on the heel first when the foot hits the ground and should prefer shoes with a higher drop. Forefoot runners, on the other hand, who strike the ground with the ball of their foot, should choose shoes with a lower drop.
  Rolling behavior: Normal pronation and supination require normal shoes. Runners with overpronation, on the other hand, should use supported running shoes, as these additionally stabilize the foot in the required areas.
   >> Top running shoes at top prices: Currently at least 30 % off
Ready for your next run
{img number="6" align="left" caption="Perfectly fitting shoes are essential for a successful running experience." img} The right running shoe is more than just an accessory - it's a crucial partner on every kilometer of your run. By looking at your running habits and prioritizing the right features, you can ensure that your new shoe gives you the best possible support every step of the way.
So don't be overwhelmed by the variety on the market, but use the criteria above to find the perfect companion for your run and get the best out of yourself.

                 How to find the perfect cycling jersey for your ride
  Whether you’re heading out for a long summer tour or cycling to work, the right gear makes all the difference. A good cycling jersey is a key part of that — it can mean the difference between staying dry or ending up soaked in sweat after just a few minutes. But which model is right for you, and what really matters when choosing one?
Why not just ride in a T-shirt?
Sure, a cotton T-shirt might do for a short evening spin. But if you ride regularly or with ambition, you’ll soon notice: a functional cycling jersey makes a big difference. It wicks moisture away from your skin, dries fast , and fits so nothing flaps or rubs the wrong way.
{img number="2" align="right" caption="Cycling jerseys keep you comfortable on the bike." img} It also helps prevent skin irritation and chafing thanks to flat seams and a close fit. On longer rides or in sweaty conditions, a good jersey keeps you comfortable — and that directly impacts your performance and how good your ride feels.
   >> Explore a selection of Scott cycling jerseys
5 things to consider when choosing a jersey
  Fit: How tight or loose your jersey is depends on your riding style. Road cyclists benefit from an aerodynamic race fit that reduces drag. Mountain bikers or leisure riders may prefer a regular fit that offers more room and comfort. Look for anatomically placed seams and elastic cuffs that stay put without digging in.
  Ventilation & zippers: A full-length front zipper is great for quick cooling on climbs or hot days. Mesh side panels or airy back sections improve airflow. Depending on your needs, extra ventilation zones for sweat-prone areas can be a smart addition.
  Pockets: Three rear pockets for snacks, phone, and tools are standard. Extra zipped pockets for valuables or reflective trims add practical benefits. Off-road riders will appreciate stable, close-fitting pockets that keep items secure.
{img number="3" align="right" caption="Freedom of movement matters off-road." img}
  Materials & sustainability: Most jerseys are made from polyester or nylon blends that wick moisture effectively. If you care about eco-friendliness, look for labels like “bluesign approved” or recycled fabrics. A touch of merino wool adds natural odor control and helps regulate temperature.
  Visibility: Reflective elements should be placed on shoulders, back, and lower sides for visibility in traffic. Bright colors and bold designs can also help you stand out — without sacrificing style.
Cycling jersey recommendations for every type
  Road enthusiasts: RC Premium or SRAM — slim fit, ultra-light, with smart ventilation. Great for fast, long rides where aerodynamics and moisture management are key.

  MTB fans & tourers: Trail Vertic or Trail Flow — relaxed fit, tougher fabric, often with short zippers. They offer plenty of freedom of movement for technical trails and often feature reinforced panels for extra protection.

  Everyday riders & commuters: Endurance Pro — comfortable, subtle, and practical. These models are great for daily rides to work or casual evening rides, with features like reflective prints and extra storage.
{productlist products=["23-421385","23-421386","23-421388","23-421387"] colors=["8048","8023","8006","8007"] showprices="1" showsupplier="1" showuvp="1" css="white" productlist}
Conclusion: comfort starts with the right jersey
A cycling jersey is more than just sporty gear. It can make a huge difference to your riding comfort — as long as it matches your style and needs. The Scott range shows just how versatile modern cycling jerseys can be.

                 Why merino wool is the perfect summer choice
  When temperatures rise, most people instinctively reach for synthetic performance shirts or classic cotton. But if you really want to stay comfortable outdoors in summer, it’s worth considering a fabric often associated with winter: merino wool.
Stay cool when the heat is on
Where heat, sweat, and movement meet, merino truly shines. The fine fibers naturally regulate body temperature , keeping you cool in the heat and warm in the wind or when the weather suddenly changes.
{img number="2" align="right" caption="Merino clothing is ideal for multi-day tours." img}Merino absorbs moisture without feeling wet and efficiently wicks it away from the body. The result: a consistently comfortable, dry feel – even on long tours.
Another often underrated benefit: merino wool is naturally antibacterial and odor-resistant. When you’re on the move for several days, you’ll love not having to wash it daily – airing it out is enough.
By comparison, many synthetic shirts struggle in summer: while they dry quickly, they tend to pick up odors fast – especially on multi-day trips.
Cotton, on the other hand, soaks up sweat, dries slowly, and soon feels clammy and cold. Not exactly what you want during active outdoor adventures in summer.
{paperlist headline="Typical summer situations where merino shines:" items=["Mountain tours with changing weather: merino quickly adapts to temperature swings.","Multi-day trips with light gear: one shirt that lasts saves weight.","Intense sports on hot days: breathable and quick-drying without odors.","City trips with an outdoor edge: functional and stylish at the same time."] paperlist}
   >> Perfect for outdoor moments: merino wool shirts from Devold
Devold: crafted in the cold to keep you cool
The Norwegian brand Devold puts merino’s full potential at the heart of its latest campaign: "Crafted in the cold to keep you cool."

                 Choosing the right hiking socks: What really matters
  Whether you're heading out for a casual day hike or embarking on a more demanding trek through hilly terrain, the right pair of hiking socks can make all the difference. Even the best hiking boots won’t help much if your socks chafe, slide down, or fail to protect your feet. This guide will show you exactly what to look for when buying hiking socks.
What sets great hiking socks apart
If you hit the trails regularly—whether in the Alps, low mountain ranges, or local woodlands—you know your feet do the heavy lifting. That’s why they deserve your full attention.
Hiking socks have a big impact on how comfortable you feel: they cushion pressure points, wick away moisture, regulate temperature, and help prevent blisters . But what really matters when you're choosing a pair?
   >> Discover a wide selection of hiking socks
Cushioning that matches the terrain
  On flat or gently rolling terrain , such as easy hikes or relaxed walks, you’ll often wear lightweight trail shoes (category A). These already offer good shock absorption thanks to their flexible soles. In this case, heavily padded socks aren’t necessary. Lightweight models like the TK5 provide just the right amount of comfort without making your feet overheat.
  For rougher trails, hilly landscapes, or longer distances , category A-B shoes are common. They offer more support but less cushioning, so a medium-padded sock like the TK2 is ideal. It cushions the heel, ball, and toe area, helping you stay comfortable even when the path gets tricky.
If you're venturing into alpine terrain , on multi-day hikes, or carrying a heavy backpack, you’ll need stiff, supportive boots (categories B-C). These offer stability but limited comfort. That’s where heavily cushioned socks like the TK1 come in—they provide essential shock absorption, reduce fatigue, and make the tough conditions more bearable.
Find your perfect pair of hiking socks!

Materials that fit your climate
The terrain isn’t the only thing that matters— climate plays a big role too. Regardless of the season, your socks should wick moisture away from your skin. This helps prevent blisters and keeps your feet feeling fresh.
  In warm weather , go for lightweight synthetic blends or fabrics like Lyocell . These modern fibers are breathable, fast-drying, and help regulate heat—perfect for sweaty summer hikes.
If the weather's unpredictable , you need a versatile sock. Merino wool is a great choice: It regulates temperature, resists odors , and still feels good when damp. It's a reliable, year-round option —from high summer to winter.
For cold days or winter hikes , choose socks made with warm wool blends and heavy padding . These insulate your feet without sacrificing breathability—keeping you warm, not sweaty.
A perfect fit for every step
Fit is just as important as material. Hiking socks should hug your feet like a second skin: no wrinkles, no slipping, no pressure points. High-quality socks are often designed specifically for the left and right foot, and even tailored to men’s and women’s foot shapes .
To get the right fit, focus on your actual foot size—not your boot size . Since hiking boots are usually bought a size larger, don’t use them as your guide.
Example: If your hiking boots are size 44 (men’s), FALKE’s size 42–43 socks will likely be a better fit. They’ll sit snugly without bunching, reducing the risk of blisters .
The result? Lasting comfort—even after many miles.
Brands like FALKE combine decades of expertise with advanced materials. While we’ll use their products as examples, the tips here apply to any good hiking sock.

                 Understanding water column ratings: How waterproof is your jacket?
  If you want to stay dry on your next outdoor adventure, there’s more to consider than just color and fit when buying a jacket. One often-mentioned yet rarely explained term plays a key role: the water column. But what exactly does it mean—and how much is enough for your activity?
What is a water column rating?
Imagine placing a pipe vertically on your jacket material and filling it with water. The water column rating tells you how high the water can rise in this pipe before it starts to seep through the fabric.
This is measured in millimeters: 1,000 mm is roughly the pressure of light rain, while 10,000 mm and above means your jacket will keep you dry even in heavy downpours. Legally, materials with 1,300 mm or more can be called "waterproof," but for outdoor use, that’s usually not sufficient.
   >> Discover high-quality rain jackets for your outdoor adventures
Waterproof, water-repellent, or water-resistant?
{img number="2" align="right" caption="The higher the water column, the better the protection from moisture." img}These terms may sound similar, but they describe different levels of protection.
  Water-repellent means the material can withstand light showers or drizzle—but that’s about it.
  Water-resistant offers a bit more protection but still isn’t fully waterproof.
  Waterproof means that even in sustained heavy rain, no water will penetrate—provided the jacket has at least a 10,000 mm rating.
Although 1,300 mm qualifies as waterproof by law, real-world outdoor use often demands much more.
Depending on the activity, your water column requirements will vary:
{paperlist headline="Recommended water column ratings by activity:" items=["Hiking & everyday use: 5,000 to 15,000 mm","Cycling: 8,000 to 20,000 mm","Mountaineering & trekking: 10,000 to 20,000+ mm","Skiing: 10,000 to 20,000 mm"] paperlist}
Two jackets, two approaches: Schöffel in comparison
Schöffel jacket Gmund: rugged all-rounder
The Schöffel Gmund jacket offers a solid 10,000 mm rating, making it a reliable choice for hiking, city strolls, or commuting. Its integrated VENTURI® membrane provides not only waterproofing but also breathability, rated at 10,000 g/m²/24h .
Convenient features include a stowable hood, adjustable cuffs and hem. At around 470–500 g, it's sturdy without being heavy—ideal from spring to fall.
Schöffel 2.5L 3D jacket Vistdal: lightweight for demanding conditions
For those heading into alpine terrain or dealing with unpredictable weather, the Schöffel Vistdal 2.5L 3D jacket is a high-tech alternative. Its Dermizax® membrane boasts 20,000 mm waterproofing and the same level of breathability. Despite these top specs, it weighs only about 240 g and packs down easily.
Eco-friendly ecodear™ nylon , a PFC-free water-repellent finish, and an adjustable hood complete the package—ideal for performance-oriented use in wind and rain.
{productlist products=["46-23458-23650","46-13194-23650","46-23835-24238","46-13533-24238"] colors=["8820","6205","5205","3805"] showprices="1" showsupplier="1" showuvp="1" css="white" productlist}
What to look for when buying
{img number="4" align="right" caption="With the right rain jacket, you’ll reach the summit dry." img}The water column rating alone doesn’t guarantee you’ll stay dry. Other features matter just as much.
A high rating is only part of the picture. The overall design quality plays a major role. Look for sealed or taped seams —water always finds the weakest point.
Even the best rating won’t help if the seams are poorly finished. Material choice is also key: durable ripstop fabrics withstand wear and tear longer, while stretch elements improve freedom of movement.
An adjustable hood and hem add protection against water and wind. And don’t forget breathability —because if you’re sweating on a climb, you don’t want to get soaked from the inside out.
   >> Complete your rain protection with waterproof and water-repellent pants
Your water column questions—clearly answered
   {qanda question="How does the water column help me choose a rain jacket?" answer="The water column tells you how waterproof a material is. The higher the value, the better the jacket protects you in heavy rain. It helps you judge whether a jacket suits your intended use—from everyday wear to trekking tours." qanda}   {qanda question="When is a jacket truly waterproof?" answer="Legally speaking, from 1,300 mm onwards—but for real protection in bad weather, you should look for at least 10,000 mm. For extreme conditions like heavy rain or alpine adventures, 20,000 mm or more is recommended." qanda}   {qanda question="What does the water column say about a jacket’s quality?" answer="It’s an important indicator, but not the only one. Craftsmanship, seam sealing, zippers, and breathability also affect how well you’re protected from rain and how comfortable the jacket feels." qanda}   {qanda question="Is a higher water column always better?" answer="Not necessarily. Higher values usually mean denser fabrics, which can reduce breathability. For everyday use, a medium-level water column is often enough—while trekking or high exertion may call for more." qanda}   {qanda question="How do I find the right rain jacket for my activity?" answer="Think about what you'll use it for: For light hikes, 10,000 mm is often sufficient; for multi-day trips or mountain hikes, a higher rating is worth it. Also consider comfort, weight, and pack size." qanda}   {qanda question="What’s the difference between a membrane and a coating?" answer="Both make fabrics waterproof. A membrane like Dermizax® or VENTURI® is more durable and usually more breathable. Coatings are often more affordable but tend to wear out faster." qanda}

                 Backpacking 2025: What modern travel backpacks need to deliver
  Backpacking is no longer just for free spirits—it’s become one of the most popular ways to explore the world. Whether you're planning a round-the-world trip, a trekking expedition, or simply heading off on vacation, travel in 2025 requires more than just a big main compartment. Here's what a modern travel backpack really needs to offer.
Carrying comfort: More than just shoulder straps
A backpack doesn’t carry itself—especially not over long distances. That’s why a high-performance carrying system is the core of every modern model. Take the V2 carrying system of the Tatonka Yukon series , for example: it’s built for heavier loads and efficiently transfers the weight to the padded hip belt.
This relieves your shoulders and keeps carrying comfortable, even after hours on the trail. The adjustable back length ensures an optimal fit—whether you're 1.60 m or 1.90 m tall.
If your backpack fits correctly, the hip belt rests on your hip bones—not above them. The shoulder straps should sit flush with the top of your shoulders, and the chest strap keeps everything stable without restricting your breathing. Most importantly, you should feel the weight on your hips, not on your shoulders.
{paperlist headline="How to tell if your backpack fits properly:" items=["The hip belt rests directly on your hip bones—not above them.", "Shoulder straps sit flush with your shoulders and don’t dig in.", "Chest strap keeps the shoulder straps stable without restricting your breathing.", "You feel the weight on your hips, not on your shoulders."] paperlist}
Smart organization: Access without the chaos
{img number="2" align="right" caption="A good travel backpack is essential for any trip." img}
When you're on the move, the last thing you want is to unpack your entire backpack just to find one item. Whether you're switching hostels, boarding a train, or setting up camp, smart organization makes everything easier . The Tatonka Yukon is built for convenience: the large front access lets you grab clothes, electronics, or snacks in seconds. A separate bottom compartment is perfect for storing dirty shoes or damp towels.
External pockets keep essentials like your travel documents, water bottle, or rain jacket within easy reach.
One standout feature: the detachable lid pocket doubles as a shoulder bag—ideal for short sightseeing trips, markets, or flights. Two-way zippers and lockable sliders offer a balance of accessibility and security.
And because every trip is different, the Yukon comes in multiple sizes—ranging from compact models for weekend getaways to high-capacity packs for long-distance travel:
{productlist products=["567-1343","567-1303","567-1304","567-1348"] colors=["369","021","277","332"] showprices="1" showsupplier="1" showuvp="1" css="white" productlist}
Weather-resistant and rugged
{img number="3" align="left" caption="A solid backpack needs to handle all kinds of weather." img}Weather is one of the few things you can’t control on your trip—from tropical downpours in Southeast Asia to persistent drizzle in the Scottish Highlands, your gear needs to cope.
The Yukon is well-prepared: its base is made of ultra-tough, seamless Cordura, resistant to dirt, abrasion, and water .
A built-in rain cover—stored in the lid—is easy to grab and quick to deploy when clouds roll in. This small but vital feature proves its worth on long journeys.
   >> Discover the complete Yukon series
Custom fit and gender-specific designs
The right pack should match not only your travel style but also your body. On multi-day treks or demanding trips, the fit makes a real difference. The Tatonka Yukon series includes women-specific versions with a shorter back panel, narrower shoulder straps, and an ergonomic shape. There are also youth versions tailored for younger travelers.
{imagewithproducts number="5" headline="" showsupplier="1" showprices="1" showuvp="1" products=["567-1300","567-1301","567-1346","567-1768"] colors=["279","477","047","004"] imagewithproducts}
These adjustments prevent pressure points and noticeably boost comfort. Whether you’re backpacking through Asia or crossing the Alps, having a backpack that fits your body pays off.
Safety and thoughtful features
Travel in 2025 isn’t just about covering ground—it’s about smart design details that streamline your journey. When you're changing transport multiple times a day, repacking often, or staying in busy hostels, practical features become essential.
The Tatonka Yukon includes compression straps to reduce bulk and securely attach gear like tents or sleeping pads. A front grab handle makes lifting and loading easier, and lockable zippers help protect your belongings in crowded public spaces.
Being able to quickly grab and maneuver your pack—whether at a bus station, in a hostel dorm, or on a train—is a convenience you’ll appreciate time and again. The Yukon proves that comfort and security can go hand in hand.

Final thoughts: Ready for your next big trip?

When choosing the right one, pay close attention to carrying comfort, internal organization, weather protection, and useful extras. The Yukon series from Tatonka delivers on all fronts—with multiple sizes and gender-specific fits for every kind of traveler. A reliable, all-purpose choice for the backpacking adventures of today.

                 Which hiking pants are right for you? Find your perfect fit!
  Hiking boots and performance jackets often get all the attention. But if you've ever set out on a trail in pants that are too hot, too tight, or soak through at the first drizzle, you know: the right hiking pants can make or break your outdoor experience.
What makes a good pair of hiking pants?
Whether you're out for a day hike, a hut-to-hut adventure, or a summit push, comfort, mobility, and weather protection are what count. The pants you choose play a big role in how you’ll remember your trip. Here’s what matters:
Lightweight and breathable: for sweaty climbs
Especially on longer or hotter hikes, your pants shouldn’t become a burden.
   Lightweight fabrics let you move freely without overheating, and high breathability helps wick away excess warmth to maintain a comfortable body climate. Polyamide-elastane blends strike a great balance between lightness and function.
Durable and tough: for rugged terrain and long tours
{img number="2" align="left" caption="The right pants turn rocky paths into pure adventure." img} If you enjoy tackling alpine routes or wild trails, your pants need to keep up. Abrasion-resistant materials , reinforced sections, and durable stitching pay off on long treks or when brushing against rock and vegetation.
A tough pair protects you from scrapes and extends the life of your gear.
Stretchy and comfortable: for full freedom of movement
Nothing ruins a hike faster than pants that pinch. Whether you’re climbing, stretching, or scrambling, flexibility matters. Look for ergonomic cuts, stretch materials , and smart extras like gussets or articulated knees.
If you're always on the move, a flexible model makes a real difference.
Weather-ready and versatile: for all conditions
Outdoor weather can change fast—your pants should keep up. Water-repellent finishes, windproof fabrics, and UV protection give you peace of mind in sun, wind, or rain.
Some designs even feature ventilation zippers to help regulate body temperature on the go.
   >> Try for yourself how comfortable function can be – explore hiking pants now
Ask yourself these 6 questions before buying
{qanda question="How and where will you primarily use the pants?" answer="A day hike in the low mountain ranges requires different pants than a multi-day alpine crossing. Lightweight models are ideal for moderate tours in warm weather, while more durable pants are better suited for challenging terrain or changing conditions. If you spend a lot of time in the mountains, be sure to consider materials and features that can handle climbing sections and sudden weather changes." qanda} {qanda question="What season will you be hiking in?" answer="In summer, breathability and UV protection are essential to avoid overheating. In spring or fall, wind and moisture protection become more important—this is where softshell fabrics excel. Some models are versatile enough for year-round use, while others are more specialized. If you hike all year, it's worth considering two different versions to stay well prepared." qanda} {qanda question="How important is freedom of movement to you?" answer="If you often hike in uneven terrain or like to sit, climb, or stretch during your hikes, you should look for stretchy materials and ergonomic cuts. 4-way stretch or gussets can make all the difference. Pre-shaped knees and an adjustable waistband also help ensure your pants move with you. On longer hikes especially, you'll notice how much this comfort matters." qanda} {qanda question="How weather-resistant should the pants be?" answer="For hikes with unpredictable weather, pants with a durable water-repellent finish and wind-resistant material are worth it. If you're hiking in particularly exposed conditions, choose windproof yet breathable fabrics. Quick-drying materials are also key if you get caught in a rain shower." qanda} {qanda question="Which fit works best for your body?" answer="Hiking pants come in a variety of cuts—from slim to relaxed. For longer hikes, it's a good idea to go for a model with an adjustable waistband or belt loops. That way, you can customize the fit so it stays in place and feels comfortable. Leg length and waist height can also play a role depending on your body shape—it’s best to try the pants on or check the size chart before buying." qanda} {qanda question="Which extra features do you care about on the trail?" answer="Think about pockets—how many do you need and where should they be placed? Zippers, ventilation slits, or reinforced zones can make your hike much easier. On longer routes, every functional detail pays off. Pants with zip-off legs or reflective elements can also make a real difference, depending on your activity." qanda}
The perfect pants for your adventure
Mammut is one of the most trusted names in outdoor apparel—known for functional details, smart design, and trail-ready durability. Whether you're conquering alpine trails or hiking with the family, there's a Mammut model tailored to your needs.

                 Which trekking poles are right for you?
  Trekking poles are more than just support on the trail—they give you balance on uneven terrain, ease the strain on your joints during descents, and provide extra stability on long hikes. But which model is the right match for your needs? And what should you really consider before buying?
Why use trekking poles in the first place?
If you’ve ever found yourself wondering whether trekking poles are really worth the effort of bringing along—you’re definitely not alone.
But there are plenty of convincing reasons to pack them, especially if you’re heading out on a longer hike, tackling steep ascents and descents, or carrying a heavier backpack where every bit of support and stability can make a noticeable difference.
{paperlist headline="How trekking poles support you:" items=["Improve your balance on uneven terrain","Reduce pressure on knees and hips during descents","Encourage a steady walking rhythm","Engage your arms for better endurance"] paperlist}
Depending on the terrain and the length of your hike, your gear needs can vary—so it’s worth taking a closer look at design, weight, and usability.
Trekking pole types—and who they’re best for
Trekking poles generally fall into two main categories: telescopic and foldable .
Telescopic poles
{img number="4" align="right" caption="Smooth adjustability is the key advantage of telescopic poles." img}Telescopic poles consist of two or three nested sections and can be adjusted to any length —super useful when you're dealing with changing terrain. Go shorter when heading uphill, extend them when heading downhill for added support.
  Tip: The MT AL 1 is a classic adjustable aluminum pole with a wide range of settings, an ergonomic grip, and solid handling—ideal for traditional hikes where durability and flexibility matter.
Foldable poles
These poles fold down into compact segments—like tent poles—making them incredibly lightweight and easy to pack . Great for trail running, speed hiking, or hut-to-hut trips where every gram counts.
The MTX Carbon from One Way is a standout here: ultra-light, foldable, and impressively rigid. Perfect for minimalist hikers who still want top-level performance.
Foldable and adjustable: the best of both worlds
Some models combine a small pack size with adjustable length. That means you can fold them away easily and still tailor the height to suit different terrains, gradients, or even multiple users.
The MTX Carbon Vario is a great example: made entirely of carbon, it offers stepless adjustment from 115–135 cm, with a grippy, extended handle. Lightweight but strong, it’s ideal for trekking, mountaineering, or trail running.
For a hybrid of carbon’s lightness and aluminum’s durability, check out the MTX Calu Vario Lite . A great pick for longer hikes where packability and stability are equally important.
{productlist products=["702-OZ61323","702-OZ60323","702-OZ60123","702-OZ60523"] colors=["","","",""] showprices="1" showsupplier="1" showuvp="1" css="white" productlist}
What to look for when buying trekking poles
  Your hiking style & duration: Whether you’re heading out for a casual day hike or a multi-day trek with a full pack—your destination and duration will influence your choice. Fixed-length poles are fine for gentle terrain, but for alpine trails or longer distances, go with adjustable models.
  Weight & packability: If saving space and cutting weight are priorities, foldable models like the MTX Carbon or MTX Calu Vario Lite are your go-to. They fit easily inside or onto a backpack—especially useful when traveling by train or plane.
{img number="2" align="left" caption="There’s a lot to consider when choosing trekking poles." img} Adjustability & flexibility: On steep trails or when sharing poles, quick length adjustment is a gamechanger. Models like the MT AL 1 or MTX Carbon Vario can be adapted on the fly. Fixed-length poles like the MTX Carbon are ultra-light but less flexible.
  Grip comfort: The grip matters more than you think—especially on long hikes. One Way poles come with ergonomic, soft-touch handles that are easy on your hands and help prevent blisters.
  Carbon vs. aluminum: Carbon is super light and absorbs vibration well, but it’s more fragile with lateral pressure. Aluminum is tougher and better for rugged use. Hybrid models like the MTX Calu Vario Lite offer a nice balance.
  Accessories & add-ons: For snow, mud, or soft trails, larger baskets (like the Alpine Baskets) make a big difference. You can easily attach them to any One Way model.

Your questions, answered
{qanda question="Why should I use trekking poles?" answer="They improve your stability on uneven ground, reduce stress on your joints during descents, and support a steady rhythm. On long or challenging hikes, they help fight fatigue and activate your upper body. When carrying a heavy pack, they’re a real plus." qanda}
{qanda question="Which is better: foldable or telescopic?" answer="Foldable poles are lightweight and compact—great for minimalist hikers or if you don’t use poles constantly. Telescopic poles offer full adjustability, which is helpful on varying terrain or for shared use." qanda}
{qanda question="How do I find the right length?" answer="Stand upright and hold the pole vertically—your elbow should form a 90-degree angle. Shorten it a bit for climbs and lengthen it for descents." qanda}
{qanda question="Which is better: carbon or aluminum?" answer="Carbon is ultralight and stiff—ideal for ambitious hikers. Aluminum is more impact-resistant, perfect for rougher terrain or casual use. Hybrid models offer the best of both worlds." qanda}
{qanda question="Are adjustable poles worth it?" answer="Absolutely—especially if your terrain varies, you're hiking with others, or planning multi-day trips. They give you more comfort and versatility." qanda}
{qanda question="What if I’m hiking in snow or mud?" answer="Use larger baskets like Alpine Baskets—they stop your poles from sinking in and give better grip. They’re easy to add to any One Way pole." qanda}
Final thoughts: poles as personal as your adventure
From forest trails to mountain passes to multi-day hikes—the right trekking pole depends on where you’re going, how you hike, and what matters most to you. One Way’s poles prove that smart design, comfort, and durability don’t have to be complicated—they just need to work when it counts.

                 Need a new backpack? Here's how to choose the perfect one for your next adventure!
   When it comes to buying a backpack, the options can be overwhelming: Which model fits your plans? How much capacity do you need? And what should you look for in a carry system? Whether you're gearing up for a day hike, bikepacking trip, or a multi-day trek – this guide will help you find your ideal match.
What makes a great outdoor backpack?
From steep climbs and long days in the saddle to fast-paced trail runs – an outdoor backpack needs to keep up. Most importantly, it should fit your body well and keep your gear organized.
{paperlist headline="Key features to look for:" items=["Ventilated back system: A quality back panel promotes airflow to reduce sweat. Look for mesh designs and ergonomically shaped back supports.","Close-to-body fit: Especially for dynamic activities, your pack should sit snugly and adjust easily. Features like adjustable torso lengths and customizable harnesses greatly boost comfort.","Weight & materials: Lightweight packs help conserve energy, but they also need to be tough. Durable fabrics that resist wear and weather are key – with recycled, sustainable options gaining ground.","Storage & access: Easily accessible hip belt pockets, stretch front compartments for jackets or bottles, and a well-designed main compartment make staying organized a breeze."] paperlist}
Many brands offer smart tech to meet these needs. Take Osprey’s Talon/Tempest series: the AirScape™ back panel promotes airflow, the adjustable torso length ensures a precise fit, and the use of recycled materials supports sustainability.
Throw in handy extras like stretch pockets and hydration system compatibility, and you've got a backpack that really delivers.
   >> Gear up for your next trip with a pack that truly fits you
Which backpack fits which adventure?
The right pack depends on where you're headed.
{img number="5" align="left" caption="Backpacks with 20–25L are ideal for day hikes." img}For a classic day hike , a 20 to 25-liter pack will comfortably carry your layers, snacks, and a rain jacket.
Planning a multi-day tour ? Then a 30 to 40-liter pack will give you enough room for your sleeping bag, extra gear, and clothing.
For fast-paced adventures like trail running or speed hiking , choose ultralight, compact packs that stay secure and move with your body.
  Cyclists should look for thoughtful details like helmet holders and attachment loops for bike lights.
Alpine pursuits like climbing or ski touring require especially durable fabrics and smart gear loops for poles or ice axes.
{productlist products=["18-1000679","18-10002578","18-1000677","18-1000510"] colors=["1091","415","1086","449"] showprices="1" showsupplier="1" showuvp="1" css="white" productlist}
Fit, size & anatomy – how to make sure your backpack fits right
Your backpack should suit your adventure – and your body. A great fit keeps things comfortable even on long journeys.
{img number="3" align="right" caption="There are great-fitting backpacks even for taller builds." img}You’ll know a pack fits when the hip fins rest comfortably on your pelvic bones, the shoulder straps hug your frame without digging in, and most of the weight rests on your hips – not your shoulders.
It should stay stable and close to your back while you move. Adjust the torso length so the shoulder strap anchors sit just below shoulder height.
Women often benefit from models made for the female form . Osprey’s Tempest line, for example, features shorter back lengths, narrower shoulder straps, and an overall ergonomic shape for added comfort and stability.
Thanks to fully adjustable carry systems, there’s a perfect fit out there for everyone.
Sustainability & durability – a smart long-term choice
If you spend a lot of time outdoors, you’ll want a pack that’s built to last – and do good. Premium models rely on rugged materials like ripstop nylon or bluesign®-certified fabrics that ensure durability over time.
Eco-friendly production methods, such as using recycled fibers, also help protect the planet.
A closer look: The Talon/Tempest collection from Osprey
{img number="2" align="right" caption="A solid choice: the Talon/Tempest series." img}If you're looking for a versatile, high-performance backpack, the Talon/Tempest series is a top contender. Whether you're hiking, bikepacking, or trail running, these packs impress with ultra-light builds (often under 1 kg), tough materials, and a thoughtfully engineered harness.
A major plus: The range includes ultracompact models (like the Talon 11 ) for short missions, mid-sized options (like the Tempest 26 ) for day or weekend trips, and large-capacity packs (like the Talon 44 ) for multi-day adventures. That means it’s ready for everything from minimalist trail runs to fully loaded treks.
Talon models are tailored to men's bodies, while the Tempest line is designed specifically for women.
Sustainability-wise, Osprey delivers here too: the collection uses recycled materials and bluesign®-approved fabrics. And if something wears out, their repair service has you covered .
   >> Best fit for men: Explore Talon models
   >> Perfect for women: Explore Tempest models
Conclusion: One backpack, endless adventures
The right backpack should match your body – and your ambitions. Osprey’s Talon/Tempest series proves that versatility, comfort, and sustainability can go hand in hand.
Whether you're hiking, cycling or trail running, the right features and fit will help you discover your new go-to pack.

                 Wake up rested – What matters in your sleeping bag
  After a long day on the trail, there’s only one thing that really counts: restful sleep. But that’s often hard to come by when camping. Poor insulation or an uncomfortable fit can leave you feeling more worn out than refreshed. That’s why it’s essential to choose your sleeping bag wisely!
What to consider before buying a sleeping bag
A good sleeping bag is more than just a warm cocoon – it’s your key to recovery, rest, and protection from the elements. So before you buy, it’s worth asking a few fundamental questions:
{paperlist headline="Things to think about:" items=["What temperatures can I expect?","How humid is the climate?","How important are weight and pack size for my trip?","What comfort level do I need to sleep well?"] paperlist}
Especially on trekking tours or extended camping trips, the wrong sleeping bag can quickly become a burden. To help you avoid that, we’ll walk you through the key features to consider – and introduce the Marmot Mad River series , which offers reliable comfort even in the great outdoors.
   >> Discover a wide selection of Marmot sleeping bags
Warmth: The key to comfort starts with temperature
{img number="2" align="right" caption="Cozy as your bed: the right sleeping bag makes all the difference." img} Whether you're heading out on a spring hike in the hills or camping through chilly autumn nights – your sleeping bag needs to match the temperature . Before buying, it’s crucial to check the comfort and limit temperature ratings – two values that help you assess whether a bag suits your planned adventure.
The comfort rating tells you the lowest temperature at which an average person can sleep comfortably in a relaxed position.
The limit rating indicates the coldest temperature at which an experienced user can still sleep without becoming cold. These values help you decide if a sleeping bag will keep you warm and safe through the night.
A model like the Marmot Mad River 15 (comfort: around -5°C, limit: around -12°C) is ideal for colder trips, while the Mad River 40 (comfort: approx. 7°C) is perfect for mild summer nights. Want to play it extra safe? Go for the Mad River 0 , which keeps you warm even in temperatures down to -18°C.
{productlist products=["68-M16044","68-M16041","68-M16039","68-M16037"] colors=["23305","41677","41675","24407"] showprices="1" showsupplier="1" showuvp="1" css="white" productlist}
Moisture: Why dry down is a game changer
One of the most underestimated issues in a tent? Moisture . It can come from many sources: nighttime sweat, condensation on the tent walls, or damp clothes and gear from earlier rain.
{img number="4" align="right" caption="Dry down is the secret to warm nights in damp environments." img} All of this can make your sleeping bag environment far more humid than expected. And that’s a real problem – traditional down doesn’t perform well when wet .
Once wet, down clumps together, loses loft, and can no longer insulate your body heat – dramatically increasing the risk of getting cold.
If you're venturing into damp or changeable conditions, you’ll want a sleeping bag that keeps you warm even when it’s wet.
That’s where insulation technology matters: it needs to be moisture-resistant, fast-drying, and able to maintain its insulating properties even when exposed to condensation or sweat.
Marmot’s ExpeDry™ technology is a strong solution here. It’s used in the Mad River series and relies on a chemical-free treatment that makes the 650-fill duck down more water-resistant – without sacrificing breathability.
This means the down stays lofty and insulating, even in damp conditions – giving you a drier sleep and less heat loss at night.
   >> Your home in the wild: Have you seen Marmot’s tents?
Comfort details: Small features, big difference
A great sleeping bag should not only keep you warm but also be convenient to use. Often, your sleep quality comes down to little things: Does the zipper snag all night? Do your toes feel cramped? Is there nowhere to stash your headlamp or valuables?
That’s why it’s worth paying attention to the details . A smart zip system allows better ventilation, a well-insulated draft tube blocks cold air, and an anatomically shaped footbox adds comfort for those who don’t want to sleep mummy-style.
Marmot’s Mad River sleeping bags check all these boxes with a thoughtfully designed feature set :
{paperlist headline="Key comfort features:" items=["Two-way zipper with anti-snag technology for easy use and targeted ventilation","Additional side zip – perfect for varied sleeping positions","Insulated draft collar and zipper baffle to block cold air","Anatomical footbox offering extra room for your feet","Internal pocket for headlamp, earplugs, or valuables"] paperlist}
With these features, your sleeping bag becomes a true comfort zone – no matter how challenging the day was.
Sustainability & pack size: Smart and responsible
Outdoor lovers don’t just care about comfort and performance – they also expect eco-conscious design.
{img number="5" align="left" caption="Compressed, the sleeping bag packs down to the size of a water bottle." img} When choosing a sleeping bag, look for sustainable materials , PFC-free coatings, and compact packability – especially important when trekking with limited backpack space.
The Mad River sleeping bags from Marmot are made from 100% recycled nylon , are PFC-free , and filled with RDS-certified down – responsibly sourced for both animal welfare and environmental impact.
And despite all that sustainability, they’re still impressively practical: the included compression sack shrinks the bag down to just 38 x 22 cm (model 15).
Ideal for anyone who wants to travel light, tread lightly, and sleep soundly.
Conclusion: Sleeping well takes more than just warmth
A high-quality sleeping bag needs to do more than keep you warm. It must resist moisture, fit comfortably, and pack down easily. The Mad River series from Marmot proves how smart design, sustainable materials, and technical know-how can help you rest and recharge in the wild.

                 Waterproof? Not Without DWR!
  We’ve all been there: You set out on a hike in high spirits, but the moment the rain starts, your jacket gets soaked - despite the label clearly saying "waterproof"! Here's why that happens - and how DWR coating plays a crucial role.
What is a DWR Coating?
DWR stands for Durable Water Repellency . It refers to a special, usually transparent finish applied to the outer surface of outdoor garments.
Its job? To make water bead up and roll off instead of soaking into the fabric. At the same time, it preserves the garment’s breathability - a big plus when you're working up a sweat.

{img number="3" align="left" caption="Lotus effect: With a working DWR coating, raindrops simply roll off" img}
Why Does My Jacket Lose Its Water-Repellency Over Time?
Even the best DWR treatment doesn't last forever. Here's what can wear it down:
- Friction from backpack straps or washing - Dirt and body oils building up on the fabric - Exposure to UV rays and weather degrading the coating
  The result? Your jacket starts to "wet out" - meaning water no longer beads but instead soaks into the outer fabric. While the membrane underneath (like GORE-TEX®) still keeps water out, the jacket feels damp and cold.
Restoring DWR - How to Make Your Jacket Weather-Ready Again
The good news: You can easily revive its water-repellent powers! Here’s how:
Step-by-step guide:
  1. Clean : Wash your jacket using a gentle cycle, a specialized outdoor detergent , and no fabric softener.
  2. Reactivate : Many DWR coatings can be reactivated with heat. After washing, tumble-dry on low (check the care label first!).
  3. Reproof  (if needed):
  Spray-on treatment : Great for targeting high-wear areas like shoulders and sleeves. Wash-in treatment : Covers the whole garment, though it may slightly reduce breathability since it also coats the inner side.
  Tip: For the planet’s sake, go for PFC-free reproofing products.
{img number="2" align="right" caption="With a solid DWR coating, you're ready for any adventure" img}
Sustainability & DWR – Do They Go Together?
Traditional DWR coatings often contain PFCs (per- and polyfluorinated chemicals), which are harmful to both health and the environment.
That’s why more and more brands - like Fjällräven , Mammut , Ternua , and Houdini - are switching to PFC-free, biodegradable alternatives for a more eco-friendly approach to staying dry.
  Bottom Line: DWR Protects You - And Your Gear
DWR might be invisible, but its impact is huge. It keeps you dry, protects your gear, and - if you choose sustainable options - it can even be eco-conscious.
With the right care, your outdoor jacket will stay functional longer and be your reliable companion on every adventure.
{paperlist headline="Key Takeaways:" items=["DWR coatings make water bead off - essential for comfort and warmth","Its effect fades over time - but can be easily reactivated","Eco-friendly, PFC-free products are better for health and environment","Regular maintenance extends the life of your gear"] paperlist}
FAQs About DWR Coating
  How often should I reproof my jacket? Roughly every 10–15 washes, or whenever water stops beading on the surface.
  Is DWR the same as being waterproof? No. DWR is just a water-repellent finish. True waterproofing comes from the membrane inside (like GORE-TEX® or Sympatex®).
  Does reproofing damage the fabric? Not at all—quite the opposite! Regular reproofing actually helps extend your jacket’s lifespan.

                 How trail running poles can elevate your performance
  Trail running poles have long outgrown their image as mere accessories—they’ve become essential tools that help runners push their limits and reach new heights. We’ve explored the key questions around trail running poles to show you why they might be the gamechanger you’ve been looking for.
How do poles reduce muscle strain?
Using poles helps distribute the physical load more evenly across your entire body. Normally, your legs, knees, and ankles take on most of the strain. But with poles, your arms and shoulders join the effort.
This reduces fatigue in your leg muscles, helps prevent soreness, and boosts your endurance—especially on long distances and ultratrails.
   >> Discover high-quality trail running poles
What are the benefits of poles on ascents and descents?
Uphill, poles act like extra propulsion, helping you drive forward with each step and conserve energy at the same time.
{img number="2" align="right" caption="Trail running poles help distribute strain evenly across your body." img}
On steep descents, poles absorb shock , reduce stress on your joints, and enhance your control—making slips, stumbles, and potential injuries less likely.
Do trail running poles increase energy consumption?
Yes, but in a smart way. While using poles engages your upper body more and slightly raises oxygen consumption, it reduces the strain on your legs. This means you stay fresher longer —a huge plus on long runs.
How do poles impact posture and breathing?
Poles encourage better posture by preventing your upper body from collapsing forward. This not only improves running efficiency but also helps your breathing, as your lungs have more room to expand.

When are trail running poles especially useful?
Poles shine on long-distance runs , where reducing muscle fatigue and extending endurance is key. They’re also a big help on steep climbs, technical terrain, and uneven surfaces, where extra support and stability are crucial.

                 The Right Ski Gear for Kids: What Parents Should Know
  For many families, skiing is the highlight of winter. But for parents, it's not just about fun – it’s also about keeping their little ones safe. The right equipment helps protect your kids from injuries and ensures they can hit the slopes with confidence. But what gear is truly essential to make their first ski experience safe and enjoyable?

Essential Head Protection
Safety starts with a properly fitting  helmet  and high-quality  ski goggles . A ski helmet should meet the  EN 1077  standard and fit snugly. {img number="2" align="left" caption="Ski helmets and goggles protect against falls and UV rays." img}
To find the right size, measure your child's head circumference with a tape measure and compare it with the manufacturer's size guide. The helmet should fit securely without pinching and should not shift when the child shakes their head.
Ski goggles are just as important as helmets, as they protect the eyes from UV rays , biting wind , and blowing snow while ensuring clear vision in all conditions. A well-fitting pair allows the kids to focus on their skiing without distraction.
   >> Check out our children's ski goggles here!
   >> And find our children's ski helmets here!

Back Protection for Extra Safety
Especially for beginners or those tackling fun parks, falls are inevitable. A protective vest helps cushion the back from impacts, adding an extra layer of safety on the slopes.
The best options feature viscoelastic foam , which molds to the body while remaining tough enough to absorb impact. Lightweight, breathable models provide additional comfort and freedom of movement.
   >> Our protective vests are flexible and comfortable. Order online now!

Choosing the Right Skis
{img number="3" align="right" caption="The right skis make it easier to learn proper technique." img}The right skis make all the difference in both safety and performance. For beginners , shorter carving skis are ideal as they are easier to control. They should reach roughly to the child’s chest or chin, making it easier to learn proper technique.
  More experienced young skiers can benefit from longer models, like race skis or freeski options, which reach nose height and provide better stability.
Equally important is the proper adjustment of ski bindings . They must be set according to the child's weight to minimize the risk of injury in case of a fall.

Perfectly Fitting Ski Boots
  Ski boots are the crucial link between skier and ski. A good fit is essential for control and safety on the slopes. Boots that are too loose make movements unstable, while overly tight boots can cause discomfort and pressure points.
Ideally, the child's toes should lightly touch the front of the boot when standing, but have some wiggle room when in ski stance. A snug heel fit is also important to ensure efficient power transfer and a secure feel. Regularly check the fit, as children’s feet grow quickly.
   >> Browse our selection of children's ski boots!

Warm Hands, Strong Grip
{img number="4" align="left" caption="Mittens are especially suitable for the little ones." img}Besides keeping little hands warm, ski gloves provide an essential grip on ski poles and lifts.
  Mittens are best for younger kids as they retain warmth better, while finger gloves offer more dexterity – ideal for older children.
Look for waterproof and windproof materials, as well as a non-slip palm coating for extra grip. Additionally, adjustable wrist straps or elastic cuffs help keep snow out and ensure a snug, secure fit throughout the day.
   >> Shop our children's ski gloves now!

Weatherproof and Easy to Spot
  Layering is key to keeping kids warm and dry on the slopes.
Start with breathable thermal underwear , followed by an insulating fleece or wool layer . The outer layer should be a waterproof and windproof ski jacket and pants with snow guards to keep moisture and cold out.
For added safety, opt for bright colors to make sure your child is easily visible on the slopes.
   >> Discover our high-quality children's ski clothing!
When to Introduce Ski Poles?
{img number="5" align="right" caption="Ski poles provide stability for advanced skiers." img} Ski poles are not necessarily needed for young beginners, as they can sometimes be more of a hindrance than a help in the early stages of learning. At the start, children should focus on developing balance, coordination, and proper turning techniques without relying on poles.
Only when your child can confidently stand on skis, make controlled turns, and maintain stability on different types of terrain do ski poles become a useful aid.
They provide extra support , improve balance , and help refine skiing techniques , especially on steeper slopes or when navigating more challenging runs. To ensure the poles are the correct length, you can use a simple rule of thumb:
  Child’s height × 0.7
If you're still unsure and want to find the perfect pole length for your child, our ski pole configurator can help you find the perfect fit.
   >> Ski poles for all ages – Browse now!

Conclusion
With the right ski gear, your child will be ready for any slope, allowing you to relax and enjoy the fun too. Properly fitted skis, well-adjusted bindings, and weatherproof clothing ensure a safe and enjoyable skiing experience.

                 A home outdoors: Find your perfect tent
  Camping is one of the best ways to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a while and enjoy nature to the fullest. To ensure that you can sleep peacefully and well protected at night after an exciting day in the fresh air, choosing the right tent is crucial. We explain what you should definitely look out for when buying.
Size makes all the difference
{img number="2" align="left" caption="First think about how many people will be sleeping in the tent." img}The first decision you need to make when looking for your tent is about the size . Tents are available in all sizes, from compact one-person tents to spacious family tents. You should therefore first ask yourself how many people you want to shelter and how much luggage you need to store. An integrated awning may also be useful for this.
Protected from wind and weather
Next, you should think about what kind of weather your tent needs to withstand. For summer camping trips, a simple throw tent with good ventilation may be sufficient, but for colder nights you will need a more wind and weatherproof version with a double wall and sturdy frame.
{productlist category="552" limit="4" showprices="1" showsupplier="1" showuvp="1" css="grey" productlist}
Material and weight
{img number="3" align="right" caption="There are big differences, especially in terms of material and weight." img}This is where cheap tents differ from high-quality tents. Depending on the material, the water column of your tent will of course change, which is particularly relevant for multi-day tours with unstable weather. In addition, the durability and weight are also determined by the composition of the fabric and the poles. So if you want to take your tent on a multi-day hiking trip, you should attach importance to keeping the weight as low as possible, whereas additional functions that may increase the weight can massively increase comfort on a short camping trip. All of this in turn influences the price of the tent.
Do I need accessories?
If, for example, you already have a tent that is not quite suitable for your planned tour, you can often help out with accessories . For example, additional guy ropes, special tent poles or extra robust pegs can provide more stability. Lighter aluminum versions can also reduce the overall weight. To protect you and your tent from the rain, you can pack an additional tarpaulin and there are specially designed groundsheets to protect the tent floor from moisture or stones. If, despite everything, a hole should appear in the tarpaulin or a tent pole should break, you can repair both with a few tools.
   >> Footprints & Accessories
{productlist category="555" limit="4" showprices="1" showsupplier="1" showuvp="1" css="grey" productlist}
Perfectly prepared for your outdoor adventure
{img number="4" align="left" caption="Take your time with your research." img}Choosing the right tent for your tours requires a lot of thought and thorough research . There are big differences, especially in terms of material and weight, which will affect your camping experience, but also the price. It is important to weigh up the requirements and personal preferences carefully and find a balance between price and performance.

{img number="5" align="right" caption="With the BOA H+i1 twist lock, the rope is tightened around the foot." img}With conventional ski boots, it was usual to close and adjust the boot with two to four buckles, depending on the model. Instead, the new BOA® system replaces the buckles in the lower part of the boot, i.e. on the foot, with a twist lock connected to a thin rope . Like a snake, this rope runs through low-friction guides. When you turn the wheel, the shoe encloses the foot evenly via the rope and thus adapts better to your individual foot shape.
The tension of the rope can be adjusted in both directions in millimetre increments using the H+i1 twist lock specially developed for alpine use. This gives you significantly  more adjustment options  than with conventional ski boot buckles. If you want to take your boots off, you can simply pull the wheel up slightly using the quick release and the tension is released completely with just one movement. {video src="_ksoybrz2Y0" title="BOA H+i1" caption="Here you can see how the BOA H+i1 system for ski boots works." css="gray" video}
Development with ski brands and athletes
More than 50,000 hours went into the development, design and testing of the BOA® Fit System H+i1 for ski boots. BOA worked closely with the world's leading ski brands and professional alpine and freeride athletes . World champion and double Olympic champion Benjamin Raich was also involved in the development process.
{quote author="Benni Raich" text="The BOA ski boot project was a great opportunity for me to contribute my experience and work closely with the BOA® team with the aim of taking fit and ski performance to the next level for future generations of athletes." quote}
The BOA® system is already used by some of the best-known ski boot brands for their models, for example Fischer, K2, Salomon and Atomic.
{video src="zJJ_mtlOF1A" title="Benni Raich - Alpine Ski Ambassador" caption="Double Olympic champion Benjamin Raich was involved in the development process." css="gray" video}
Better fit for even better performance
{img number="2" align="right" caption="The improved fit also provides more control over the ski." img}A scientific study by the BOA® Performance Fit Lab tested the benefits of the new system. The results are based on feedback from top athletes after almost a thousand hours on the snow and were also published in Frontier in Sports.
The precise and millimeter-accurate adjustability reduces maximum pressure on the back of the foot by 13 percent. The improved fit and optimized heel hold not only make the boot more comfortable to wear. It also increases power transmission during swing initiation by ten percent. Ultimately, this also means more control over the ski and therefore more safety.
Another important aspect in the tests was robustness and durability. The material has to withstand even the most extreme alpine condition s. The rope consists of a core with 19 stainless steel strands, which is surrounded by another 90 stainless steel strands. This gives it a tensile strength of more than 250 kilograms. With its bayonet and cartridge system, the twist lock also offers maximum impact protection.
BOA offers a  lifetime guarantee  for its own products. If something does break, BOA will provide the necessary spare parts and repair information free of charge.  {video src="-5nrpfviDYU" title="The new BOA Powered H+i1 alpine ski boot" caption="The development of the BOA® ski boot system took more than five years." css="gray" video}
Technology from the USA
{img number="6" align="right" caption="The BOA system is also used in other areas." img}The company behind the technology, BOA Technology, Inc. is based in Steamboat, Colorado, in the heart of the American Rocky Mountains. Founder Gary Hammerslag developed the first BOA® system back in 2001 for a completely new type of snowboard boot lacing. The brand now has more than 250 registered patents and over 200 million Fit Systems sold.
BOA® technology is not only found in ski and snowboard boots. The twist system is also available for ski and cycling helmets, gloves and cycling shoes .

                 What is PrimaLoft®?
  When searching for winter clothing, you often come across PrimaLoft® Insulation as a benefit. But what exactly is that? We give you an introduction to the material, including its benefits and applications in the outdoor sector.
The PrimaLoft® technology
PrimaLoft® is a synthetic insulation material that mimics the warmth and softness of down. It consists of ultra-fine fibers that trap heat and keep you comfortable in cold weather. PrimaLoft is also highly compressible, making it easy to pack and store. What's more, it is made entirely from recycled materials and is therefore also environmentally friendly!
The material was originally developed for the US Army to keep soldiers warm in harsh weather conditions. Today, it is widely used in outdoor equipment and high-quality winter clothing.
In fact, there are now many different PrimaLoft® technologies . These include, for example

PrimaLoft® Active: Specially developed insulation for moisture management and breathability for a wide range of intensive activities
PrimaLoft® ThermoPlume®: The vegan-friendly alternative to down that is 100 percent recycled
PrimaLoft® for footwear: Specially developed for footwear and repeated wear
PrimaLoft® BIO: Uses fibers from nature to reduce the long-term impact of microplastics

   >> Learn more about PrimaLoft®
{video src="LC4jlg9Nrxk" title="How PrimaLoft® insulation is made" caption="To make PrimaLoft®, PET bottles from landfills or marine environments are shredded into small plastic particles and then converted into high-performance insulation." css="gray" video}
Advantages of PrimaLoft®
{img number="2" align="right" caption="PrimaLoft® is very compressible and therefore easy to pack. (Photo: adidas TERREX)" img}
The advantages of PrimaLoft® are numerous. Firstly, PrimaLoft® offers excellent thermal performance . Unlike down, which loses its insulating properties when exposed to moisture, PrimaLoft® retains its warming properties.
Secondly, PrimaLoft® is lightweight and compressible , making it a perfect choice for backpackers and hikers. The material packs down very small without adding weight or bulk to your backpack.
Thirdly, PrimaLoft® is hypoallergenic , making it a good alternative to down for allergy sufferers.
And finally, PrimaLoft® is extremely hard-wearing and durable . The material is designed to withstand heavy use, which is why outdoor brands use it for equipment and clothing that is exposed to harsh conditions.

Specially developed for intensive activities, these garments promise pleasant temperatures and balanced moisture management to wick sweat away from the skin. They also do not restrict your freedom of movement and therefore ensure a high level of comfort during exercise.
The different designs can be easily combined with other layers to adapt to the requirements of your training. Models from brands such as ODLO and UYN are particularly popular.

                 The advantages and disadvantages of merino wool for outdoor clothing
  Merino wool is a popular material for outdoor clothing, known for its soft texture and excellent thermoregulation properties. But how well does it really work? Find out about the pros and cons of merino wool in this article.
The advantages: Naturally soft and warm
{img number="2" align="left" caption="The high-quality new wool has very good moisture-regulating qualities. (Foto: FALKE)" img}
High-quality new wool has several advantages for outdoor clothing. Firstly, it is a natural material that is obtained from the fur of merino sheep and is therefore biodegradable.
Secondly, it is very soft and non-scratchy , making it a good choice for people with sensitive skin. This quality also makes the wool a popular option for functional underwear that sits close to the body.
Thirdly, merino wool has excellent thermo-regulating properties that allow the body to keep warm in cold weather and stay cool in warm weather. The material also has the ability to wick moisture away from the skin, meaning it dries quickly and keeps your body warm in wet conditions. Finally, merino is considered odour-resistant, which is a great advantage, especially during strenuous activities.

The disadvantages: Sensitive and more expensive than synthetics
{img number="3" align="right" caption="Merino wool is used in midlayers, jumpers and functional underwear, for example. (Foto: Bergans of Norway)" img}
Although merino wool offers many advantages, there are also some disadvantages that need to be considered.
One of the biggest disadvantages is that it is more expensive than synthetic materials . Merino wool is also more difficult to care for as it is more sensitive to heat, moisture and friction.
  The extraction of the material is also a constant focus of attention. Although there are now very high standards for the protection of animal welfare, the issue remains controversial in some circles. For this reason, recycled wool is becoming increasingly popular.
In addition, many allergy sufferers cannot tolerate merino wool products, which is why they prefer to use alternatives.
Another disadvantage is that it is less resistant to wear and tear than synthetic materials, which means that merino products often have to be replaced more quickly. To avoid this, manufacturers are increasingly focussing on material blends that combine the best of merino and synthetics.

                 The Jacket Debate: Hardshell vs. Softshell
Choosing a jacket is more than just picking a color—it’s about functionality. Outdoor lovers often face the dilemma: hard or soft shell? Let’s break down the differences and help you decide which fits your adventures best.

What’s a Hardshell?
{img number="2" align="left" caption="Hardshell jackets are 100% waterproof—your best defense in bad weather. (Photo: Marmot)" img}
When rain is on the menu, adventurers turn to hardshell jackets. Built using breathable, fully waterproof materials like GORE-TEX, they keep you dry even in heavy downpours. Their construction layers an outer fabric (polyester or polyamide), a waterproof membrane, and sometimes an inner lining into a single, sturdy shell. Sealed seams and laminated zips ensure no moisture creeps in.
They are best for wetter conditions—think hiking in rain, mountaineering, skiing, ski touring, or snowshoeing in winter.
   >> Shop hardshell jackets now
{paperlist headline="Hardshell: Pros & Cons" items=["Completely waterproof—even in heavy rain or snow","Breathable fabrics keep you comfortable during activity","Highly durable and long-lasting","Can be heavy and bulky","Less flexible than softshell","Typically more expensive than softshell"] paperlist}
{productlist products=["571-NF00A8AZ","571-NF00A8BA","554-064-0480","554-064-0479"] colors=["BOM1005","V6V1005","C68-M","B43-34"] showprices="1" showsupplier="1" showuvp="1" css="grey" productlist}
What’s a Softshell?
{img number="3" align="right" caption="Softshell jackets are lightweight and flexible—perfect for active moves. (Photo: Odlo)" img}
Softshell jackets use stretchy, water-resistant fabrics like polyamide, polypropylene, or polyester. They often feature two- or three-layer laminates: a tough outer layer with an insulated, moisture-wicking lining. The result? A flexible layer that breathes and moves with you.
They are best for highly active pursuits—like trail running, cycling, or climbing—where mobility, breathability, and lightweight comfort are key. Also great for everyday wear.
   >> Find your new softshell jacket now
{paperlist headline="Softshell: Pros & Cons" items=["Lightweight, flexible, and comfortable for high-output activity","Generally more budget-friendly","Durable and resilient","Versatile across a wide range of temperatures and conditions","Not fully waterproof","Less robust than hardshell material"] paperlist}
Choosing the Right Shell
Still unsure which way to go? Here's the deal: if you're heading out into heavy rain, snowstorms, or alpine conditions where staying bone-dry is non-negotiable, a hardshell is your best friend. Need something more agile for trail running, biking, or everyday commutes? Then a softshell gives you the breathability and comfort to move freely. Ideally, you’ll have both in your closet—ready to match whatever your adventure (or the weather) throws your way.

                 Wie How do I choose the right bike helmet?
  Even though there is no legal obligation to wear a helmet for adults in Germany, it is still recommended. Especially for action-packed cycling sports such as gravel or mountain biking, a bike helmet is even an unwritten must to guarantee your safety. But how do you choose the right model? We give a few tips to help you make the right choice.
It's all about the fit
{img number="2" align="left" caption="A helmet must fit securely, without wobbling and pinching. (Photo: Dainese)" img}
A good bike helmet should fit as snugly as possible – but without being uncomfortably tight or wobbly. To find the right size, you need to measure your head circumference, as this is the basis for choosing the right size.
  Important: The size charts can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer! It is also advisable to try out the size settings of the helmets. The width and length of many models can now be adjusted in a few simple steps.
   Shop for cycling helmets now

Safety first
{img number="3" align="right" caption="Helmets sold in Europe are all CE certified. (Photo: Alpina)" img}
Another important factor is the safety of the helmet. This includes points such as material, certifications and area of use .
Helmets sold in Europe all have a CE certification , which proves that they comply with European safety standards. The following test standards must be met for this:

  EN 1078 : the general certificate for cycle helmets
  EN 1080 : the test standard specifically for children's helmets

Although the general test standard applies to all cycling helmets, there are still different types of helmets . For example, MTB helmets require completely different safety qualities than a regular helmet for short cycling tours.
When buying a helmet, you should also look for other protection systems , such as MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection Systems). This system was developed for additional protection against concussions or other injuries in the event of an impact and is now standard on most helmets.

High-quality materials and good workmanship
{img number="4" align="left" caption="The choice between microshell and hardshell helmets depends on the area of use. (Photo: Oakley)" img}
Another safety aspect of cycling helmets is the material used. Most often, helmets are made of hard foam (EPS), as this has shock-absorbing properties . To prevent breakage, the helmets are moulded directly in one piece using the so-called "in-mould process". The thickness of the helmet varies depending on whether polycarbonate is used for the microshell or ABS (acrylonitride butadiene styrene) for the hardshell . Here again, it depends on the area of use.
What all cycling helmets have in common: a fastener under the chin. Whether it's a clip or a modern magnetic fastener, you should make sure that it is well-fastened and can be easily adjusted to the shape of your head .
In summary, you should consider the following three points when choosing the right cycling helmet: area of use, fit and safety qualities . The design can then help you decide between similar models. But the basic rule is: safety before looks!

                 Hydration systems: from water bottle to water filter
  Summer, sun, heat... One thing is especially important for outdoor activities during the warm months: staying hydrated! There are various drink systems on the market for this purpose, ranging from the classic water bottle to the modern drinking belt. We present the different options with their advantages and disadvantages to make your choice easier.
Classic water bottles
{img number="2" align="left" caption="Water bottles are among the most popular hydration systems, as they are also used in everyday life." img}
Water bottles are the most common and affordable option for hydration on the go. They come in different sizes and shapes made of materials such as plastic, stainless steel and glass. They are easy to use, refill and clean and can be carried in backpacks or bags. However, they are not very efficient in terms of water capacity and may not be suitable for long hikes or extreme temperatures.
   >> Find a suitable drinking bottle now

Water filter/Purifier
{img number="3" align="right" caption="With water filters you have clean drinking water almost everywhere, as long as there is a natural source." img}
Water filters, also known as purifiers, are a good option for outdoor enthusiasts because they can extract water from natural sources such as rivers, lakes, or streams. Thanks to technologies such as UV light or carbon filters, bacteria, viruses, and other impurities are removed from the water. Water filters are generally compact, light, and easy to use and can provide safe drinking water in emergencies. However, they may not be very effective against some types of chemicals or heavy metals and may need to be maintained or replaced . Depending on the model, water purification may also take some time.

Hydration Packs
{img number="4" align="left" caption="Hydration packs are particularly popular for trail running." img}
Hydration packs are designed for hands-free hydration during activities such as hiking, cycling or trail running. They consist of a backpack with a built-in water reservoir, drinking tube and mouthpiece. Alternatively, they offer space for hydration bladders. They are practical, comfortable and have additional pockets for other important items such as snacks, your smartphone or keys. However, hydration packs can be bulky and heavy and are not suitable for longer hikes. In addition, frequent cleaning is not as easy as with classic water bottles. The drinking tube also needs to be maintained and cared for accordingly.
   >> Shop hydration packs and bladders

Hydration belt
{img number="5" align="right" caption="Hydration belts are perfect for short, intense activities." img}
Hydration belts are a similar option to hydration packs , but with a more minimalist design. They consist of a belt that provides space for water bottles or hydration bladders and a small pocket for your keys or smartphone. They are lightweight, easy to use and provide quick access to water during short activities such as running or walking. However, they are not very comfortable during intense activities and do not offer enough capacity for longer adventures .
   >> To the drinking belts
Choosing the right outdoor hydration system ultimately depends on your personal preferences, needs and activities . Classic water bottles are a good all-round choice for most outdoor activities. However, for long treks that take you near enough natural water sources, a purifier is recommended. Hydration packs and hydration belts, on the other hand, are great options for hands-free hydration on long runs or bike rides. Whichever option you choose, make sure you stay hydrated during any outdoor activity in summer!

                 The A to Z of Down Gear
  Down is a go-to insulation material in the outdoor world, used in everything from sleeping bags to jackets. It's lightweight, super warm, and incredibly comfortable to wear. In this article, we take a closer look at down, how it's used, and what to keep in mind when choosing or caring for down products.

Not All Down Is Created Equal
{img number="3" align="left" caption="Down is known for being incredibly light and warm. (Photo: Marmot)" img}
When people think of down, they usually associate it with warmth, comfort, and low weight . That’s why it’s not only found in bedding but also in outdoor jackets for chilly days.
Traditionally, down is sourced from birds. Since several thousand kilograms are processed annually, strict standards like the Responsible Down Standard (RDS) or Re:Dawn (which uses recycled down) are now in place to ensure both sustainability and animal welfare.
Additionally, many brands now turn to synthetic alternatives made from polyester, viscose, PrimaLoft, or other plant-based materials. These options often combine the best properties of both natural down and synthetic fibers: warmth, softness, lightness, and even performance when wet. Plus, they’re especially popular among allergy sufferers.
   >> Learn more about sustainable down certifications

Key Terms You Should Know
{img number="4" align="right" caption="Fill power, down ratio, and total fill weight all influence performance." img}
Several key terms come up when looking at down products. Here’s what they mean:

  Fill weight: This refers to the amount of down (in grams) inside a product. The more down, the more insulation—especially important for winter gear.

  Down ratio: This indicates the blend of down to feathers. Since down is lighter and insulates better, a higher down content is ideal.

  Fill power (measured in cuin): This tells you how well the down rebounds after being compressed. Higher cuin (cubic inches) = loftier, warmer jackets. For cold conditions, look for 500 cuin and up; premium jackets can go up to 900 cuin.

These numbers influence how warm, fluffy, and heavy your jacket is—so it’s worth paying attention.

Construction & Care Tips
{img number="2" align="left" caption="A few loose feathers? Don’t panic—most down jackets can be easily repaired. (Photo: Bergans)" img}
To ensure even warmth, down is distributed in multiple chambers inside the jacket or vest. This layout prevents cold spots even if the down shifts a little during use. It also makes repairs easier: If feathers start leaking, that chamber can often be refilled and resealed without much fuss.
Because down loses its insulating power when wet, many jackets come with a water-repellent finish . However, this protective coating can wear off over time. That’s why it’s a good idea to use spray-on treatments to keep your jacket performing. Just remember to wash and dry it thoroughly before reapplying.
Sometimes you might see dark patches showing through the fabric. This isn’t dirt—it’s often just the down showing through thinner materials . A quick wipe with a damp cloth usually clears things up.
Today’s down products are made to be as tough and long-lasting as possible. But accidents can happen—especially during outdoor adventures. If your jacket tears, don’t try to fix it on the spot. Leave it be and contact the manufacturer. Brands like Bergans and Mammut now offer dedicated repair services to extend the life of your gear.

                 SportFits Test: Plus-Size Fitness Clothing
  Every January, millions of people decide to exercise more in the new year. As a result, gym registrations skyrocket and fitness clothing becomes one of the most popular shopping areas. After all, the right outfit contributes significantly to performance and motivation! Unfortunately, finding something suitable in the plus-size segment can be rather difficult. Therefore we decided to test a complete plus-size outfit from our shop for quality, fit and comfort.
Renowned brands for everybody
{img number="7" align="left" caption=" Brands like CMP or Craft also serve large sizes in the fitness sector." img}
Well-known sports brands often suffer from the reputation of not being for everyone. All too often, sizes stop at a 40 or 42 or run particularly small . This is a problem for overweight people who decide to start exercising. Instead, they turn to unknown manufacturers or cheap fast fashion to find fitness clothing for themselves. There are, however, well-known brands that also cater to large sizes . In the outdoor segment, these include CMP and MAUL, for example, and skiers can find suitable jackets and trousers at Schöffel. But what about fitness and running?
With my size 48, I tested an outfit for SportFits consisting of the CRAFT Training Bra Classic , the CMP Woman Long Pant training pants, the CRAFTCore Unify Logo Tee and the Puma Flyer Runner Femme shoes.
   >> Discover fitness clothing up to size 56
T-Shirts: Comfortable fit and functionality
{img number="8" align="right" caption=" The CRAFT Core Unify Logo Tee is very light and offers a lot of breathability." img}
Going to the gym when you're plus size is always an effort. It's not uncommon to encounter judgmental looks under which you don't want to stand out negatively. Well-fitting clothe s help enormously to feel better. However, it is important that they do not slip or are too tight in the wrong places.
With shirts, there is also the factor of personal preference . Do you like short sleeves or sleeveless tops? Should the cut be sporty or wide? What length should the shirt be?
However, functionality is considerably more important than appearance. The shirts have to be breathable and light to ensure a pleasant body climate.
   >> Fitness shirts for women from size 44
   >> Fitness shirts for men from size 44
The Core Unify Logo Tee from the manufacturer CRAFT promises exactly these qualities. Another plus point: the versatile training shirt is made from 100 percent recycled polyester .
As soon as you unpack it, you notice how light and soft the shirt is without appearing transparent. The fit is sporty, but not so tight that you feel smothered. The performance during sports is also convincing. Even during intense sessions, the shirt stays airy and dry . The tighter fit may not be for everyone, but that depends entirely on personal preference.
All in all, I felt very comfortable in the shirt and will definitely continue to wear it for sports. The shirt is also suitable for hiking or cycling in the summer!
   >> More training shirts by CRAFT
Sports bras: good support is a basic requirement
{img number="9" align="left" caption=" With sports bras, choosing the right intensity is important to guarantee sufficient support." img}
A sports bra is a must-have for any fitness outfit. Compared to many classic bras, the sports version offers significantly more support and comfort during intensive activities. The problem in the plus-size range: sufficient support for large bust sizes. Since sports bras do not have underwires, the material must be strong enough to hold even large bust sizes as well as possible. Otherwise, there will be pain when running or doing fitness exercises.
   >> Discover sports underwear from size 44
The Craft Training Bra Classic goes up to a size XL (EU:52) and is made from recycled polyester as well as elastane. Although the intensity is specified as low-medium , the tight fit ensures a comfortable hold during sporting activity. However, the bra is less suitable for extreme sports.
When trying it on, the first thing you notice is that the sports bra fits really comfortably and holds well. Even after two hours of training, everything feels great. For medium-intensity sports , the Craft Training Bra Classic is a really good choice. For very intensive sports, however, you should go for a model with a higher support.
   >> More active base layers by CRAFT
Fitness trousers: Optimal fit and plenty of freedom of movement
{img number="2" align="right" caption=" The pattern of the CMP Woman Long Pant is a real eye-catcher." img}
Shopping for trousers is a nightmare for many in the plus-size range, as it is particularly difficult to find a good fit here. Trousers are often scaled proportionally: The bigger the size, the longer they are. For shorter people like me, this unfortunately makes them unwearable unless a short size is available. Even with larger thighs, you quickly reach your limits in the search. Sports trousers often promise enough stretch , but that doesn't guarantee an optimal fit. In addition, the clothing must also be functional . Unrestricted freedom of movement, for example, should be a must.
   >> Shop fitness pants for women from size 44
   >> Shop fitness pants for men from size 44
The Woman Long Pant fitness pants by CMP are particularly eye-catching because of the colourful design on the leg. But the listed qualities also speak for themselves: 4-way stretch material , Dry Function and odour-inhibiting treatment .
I want to go straight to the question of questions: The fit. The trousers really do fit great and, above all, are non-slip . And even large thighs were no hurdle here. For my 1.66 m, however, the model was unfortunately a bit too long, so I had to adjust the trouser leg at the bottom. It was a pity, because the beautiful pattern was affected. However, this didn't bother me during sports.
I also have to mention the material of the CMP Woman Long Pant training pants. It is wonderfully light and feels like a second skin even during intensive training sessions. It is opaque and always fits perfectly. Another plus point is that there is some concealment, especially at the top.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the pants. The length is the only drawback, but that doesn't stop me from continuing to wear the pants.
   >> To more long CMP fitness pants
Shoes: Comfort for the heavy wearer
{img number="10" align="left" caption=" The Flyer Runner Femme shoes from Puma are comfortable even during long sports sessions.." img}
More weight means significantly more energy with every step, which must be absorbed or converted by the shoes to protect the joints and maintain momentum while running. This requires robust materials and well-thought-out running technologies in the design.
Ideally, the shoes should also have qualities such as breathability. More importantly, they have to be comfortable , even during long sports sessions. They should also last as long as possible and stay in shape so that they don't have to be replaced after just a few months.
   >> Discover the entire running shoe range
The Flyer Runner Femme model from Puma stands out with its chic design. Combined with qualities like the SoftFoam energy sole for improved cushioning and durability , EVA midsole and low weight, the shoe is an interesting choice for training.
The look is just as beautiful live as it is in the picture. But much more important, of course, is the experience during exercise. After about 15 hours in the gym and home workouts, I can say that the shoes are absolutely comfortable ! Especially the cushioning on the treadmill and on the cross trainer is fantastic. Even after long training sessions, the feet don't hurt. On the contrary. The shoes are so comfortable to wear that they are also recommended for everyday use. Another plus: the shoes are so light that you hardly notice them.
If I had to look for a con point, I would only mention the mesh material, as this is not to everyone's taste.
   >> Discover more Puma shoes
Fact is, even fuller people can wear high-quality sportswear from well-known brands. You just have to know where to look for it. Even if not all companies offer clothing from size 44, the selection is still large enough to find beautiful and, above all, functional outfits for yourself. Our tip: Use the size filter and discover many great items in the right size!
{gallery number="3-6" captions=[" The right fitness outfit can have a positive effect your on self-confidence in the gym."," The most important thing about plus-size fitness clothing: a fit you feel comfortable in."," I will definitely be using the outfit from CMP, CRAFT and Puma more often."," The Puma running shoes are still super comfortable even after long training sessions."] css="grey" gallery}

                 Trekking poles - practical or unnecessary?
  Hiking and trekking poles are becoming increasingly popular. Whereas in the past they were rather ridiculed for their use, nowadays more and more hikers rely on the support of these functional helpers. But the use of poles is not always really helpful. We show you the advantages of hiking poles, where they are best used and why it is sometimes better to go without them.
Pro: Reduced strain and more stability
{img number="3" align="right" caption="Trekking poles facilitate the ascent. (© Leki)" img}
The advantages of trekking poles are obvious. They reduce strain on your joints , especially the knees and the spine , as they distribute the weight between the arms and legs. This also puts less strain on the leg muscles. For hikers with joint or spinal problems, walking poles are a great way to make the journey easier. They also provide additional impetus when walking uphill.
Another aspect is the increased stability and safety due to additional contact points, which ensure better balance and posture. Especially when carrying heavier loads, for example in the form of a fully packed backpack, this makes a big difference on longer distances. On slippery or uneven ground, trekking poles provide better grip and increased steadiness, making it easier to tackle more difficult routes.
Contra: Risk of injury and reduced sense of balance
But this is exactly where the catch lies. If the poles get stuck , slip on rocky ground or loosened telescopic segments suddenly push together, the hoped-for grip may prove treacherous, and instead, the danger of falling and injury may even increase. So you should never rely completely on the poles, and always make sure you have a firm footing as well.
This leads us directly to the next disadvantage of trekking poles. Regular or even excessive use can lead to a deterioration of your balance and coordination . However, it is precisely these skills that are quite important when hiking in the countryside. If coordination skills are lacking, this can lead to insecurity in difficult terrain where the use of poles is not possible.
If coordination skills are lacking, this can lead to instability on difficult terrains where the use of poles is not possible.
In particularly impassable places where the hands have to be used, trekking poles quickly become bulky and annoying. For people who are already insecure, poles can also be an additional overload, as they not only have to think about where to take each step, but also where to poke the pole.

Pro
Contra

- Relief of joints - Support of leg muscles - Additional drive uphill - Increased stability and safety due to additional contact points - Better steadiness on slippery or uneven ground
- Deterioration of sense of balance - Increased risk of falling and injury - Deterioration of coordination skills - Bulkiness of trekking poles - Additional incertitude on the trail

Where and for whom are trekking poles worthwhile?
{img number="2" align="left" caption="Trekking poles support you in difficult terrain. (© Leki)" img} Trekking poles offer good support, especially for older people whose sense of balance or coordination is already deteriorating. Since their use relieves the joints and spine, poles are also recommended for hikers who already have joint problems and want to balance out their deficits.
On day hikes or in rough or difficult terrain , the use of poles can be a great help. They support weight distribution and prevent fatigue, especially on longer routes, as the body is more evenly loaded and carrying the backpack becomes more comfortable.
On easy and flat routes, however, you should avoid using poles. This way you can train your sense of balance and give your body the opportunity to move on more challenging terrain without poles.
{paperlist headline="Trekking poles are useful when..." items=["balance or coordination deteriorate with age","joint problems are already present","undertaking long tours or facing difficult terrain","carrying heavy backpacks","more support and stability is required"] paperlist} >> Here you can find a large selection of hiking and trekking poles!
So, do you need trekking poles? Yes and no!
Ultimately, there is no clear yes or no to trekking poles. Whether it makes sense to use them depends on your physical condition and the terrain . If you use your poles specifically on demanding routes, you can relieve the strain on your body. However, excessive use tends to have the opposite effect. That's why you should leave your walking poles at home for easy tours, or at least stow them away in your backpack. As is so often the case, you need to find the golden middle.
  >> Discover what you should consider when choosing the right hiking poles in terms of length, material and construction!

                 Calculating the right length for hiking poles
Since hiking poles are often used in steep terrain, adjusting them to the right length is not quite as trivial as, for example, with cross-country skiing or ski poles . Especially on mountain tours, the pole length should be readjusted on steep uphill and downhill passes. For this reason, folding and telescopic poles, which can be adjusted in length in just a few steps, are particularly popular with mountaineers.
  >> Adjustable hiking and trekking poles
Find the basic setting with our pole length configurator
Fortunately, however, there is also a basic setting for hiking poles with which every tour can be started and to which you should always return on flat passages. With our  pole length configurator for hiking   poles  you can easily calculate this length: {configuratorgroup "configurators":[ { "name":"$height", "label":"Height", "type":"slider", "min":0, "max":220, "default":180, "steps":1, "unit":"cm" } ], "outputs":[ { "name":"$length", "formula":"round(0.68*$height.value)" }], "resulttext":"For a body height of $height.value cm, we recommend a length of about $length cm for your hiking poles." configuratorgroup}
   You have calculated the right length? >> Here you will find a large selection of hiking and trekking poles
90° rule: How to find out if the length is right for you
{img number="7" align="right" caption="Regardless of uphill or downhill: upper and lower arm should always form a 90° angle." img}When you're out and about, it's very easy to check whether the pole is correctly adjusted in length. Simply place the pole with the tip on the ground and check that your forearm and upper arm form a right angle (90°) . The beauty of this basic rule is that it can also be used on steep uphill and downhill sections. Uphill, the pole must be set shorter and downhill correspondingly longer - but always set so that the upper arm and forearm form a right angle.
Caution: Always pay attention to the locking mechanism!
Downhill, by far the most weight rests on the poles. No wonder, since many hikers want to protect their knees as much as possible when going downhill. However, it is important to always make sure that the locking mechanism of the pole is properly closed before descending. Poles that cave in when going downhill hold an enormous potential for injury, and even falls in steep terrain are often due to collapsing hiking poles. Therefore, the following also applies here in particular: Pay attention to material fatigue!
Foldable or telescopic poles: More than just a matter of taste
It should be obvious that fixed-length poles are at a disadvantage in mountainous terrain. But there are also clear differences when comparing foldable and telescopic poles. On the one hand, foldable poles are usually significantly more expensive due to their more complex construction. However, most models can be conveniently stowed in the backpack and do not have to be lashed to the outside of the backpack. Especially on via ferrata, this is an unbeatable advantage! In addition, high-quality folding poles can not virtually sink in due to the construction. Telescopic poles , on the other hand, are characterized by a slightly higher stiffness and are often quicker to adjust in length. Ultimately, it depends on your wallet and the terrain in which you want to hike. For extreme steep passages or tours with climbing sections, we recommend foldable poles.
{gallery number="1-2" captions=["Folding poles can be stowed more compactly","Telescopic poles are usually cheaper to buy"] css="grey" gallery}
Carbon or aluminum? A matter of debate
While there are clear advantages and disadvantages when comparing folding and telescopic poles in different circumstances, there are fewer differences when it comes to the material used. Of course, carbon poles are lighter than their aluminum counterparts. But whether this justifies the significantly higher price is something everyone must decide for themselves - especially since aluminum is also one of the lightest metals on the market.

                 Calculating the right length for ski poles
When calculating the right length for ski poles , it depends primarily on your height and where you plan to use the poles most of the time. If you ski almost exclusively on groomed slopes, the poles you use should tend to be longer than those used by freeriders who often ski deep snow or moguls. Freestylers in the park even use much shorter poles. Here, poles with a length of around 100cm are standard equipment.
Pole length configurator
With two clicks to the optimal ski pole length: Just tell us your height and where you want to use the pole most - our pole length configurator will determine the optimal length of your ski poles!
{configuratorgroup "configurators":[ { "name":"$area", "label":"Area of use", "type":"dropdown", "values":[ [ 0, "On the slopes" ], [ -3, "In deep snow" ], [ -1, "Sometimes here, sometimes there" ] ] }, { "name":"$height", "label":"height", "type":"slider", "min":0, "max":220, "default":180, "steps":1, "unit":"cm" } ], "outputs":[ { "name":"$slope", "formula":"round(0.7*$height.value+$area.value)" } ], "resulttext":"With a body height of $height.value cm we recommend you a pole length of $slope cm" configuratorgroup}
  You got the right size? >> Here you will find a wide selection of ski poles
90° Rule: How do I know if the length of the poles fits me?
When you are on the slopes, you can quickly check if the poles are right for you. To do this, hold the pole upside down, i.e. place the handle on the ground and hold the pole below the basket. If your forearm forms a 90° angle with your upper arm, the poles fit (for normal use on the slopes).If you like to do mental arithmetic, you can also approximate the length using the following formula:  {paperlist items=["Ski pole length = body height (in cm) x 0.70"] paperlist}
What to consider for ski poles for children?
The same formula applies to the length of poles for children as for adults. However, the shaft of the pole is usually a little thinner and the handles are specially adapted for children's smaller hands. Children should always make their first attempts at sliding on skis without poles. Only when they are experienced enough and the poles no longer interfere with skiing on lifts, children should also ski with poles to further improve their technique. >> Here you can find our selection of ski poles for kids
Do ladies need special ski poles?
No. The same formula for determining the length applies to women as to men. However, women often choose poles that are specially designed for women. These are characterized by a feminine design and slightly narrower handles. >> Here you can find our selection of women's ski poles
Carbon or aluminum - a question of faith
{img number="2" align="left" caption="Opinions differ on the choice of shaft material" img} Carbon: Carbon poles are becoming increasingly popular. Carbon is very light and, due to its high bending strength, is characterized by almost optimal swing behavior. However, carbon poles are also significantly more expensive than their aluminum counterparts. Unfortunately, there is still no uniform guideline, from which percentage of carbon a ski pole may be labeled as a carbon pole.However, with brand manufacturers such as LEKI, the customer can be sure that the pole shaft is made almost entirely of carbon and that only high-quality HM carbon (high-modulus fiber - also called aramid carbon) has been used.
  Aluminum: The advantages of Alumium are known from the body construction for cars. Aluminum poles are robust, absolutely rust-free and highly stable. Although carbon is again a tad lighter, aluminum is still one of the lightest metals. For the average skier, an aluminum pole is usually quite sufficient.
  Carbon composite: In carbon composite poles, the shaft is made of a carbon aluminum fiber composite. The aim is to combine the robustness of aluminum poles with the light weight and optimized swing behavior of aluminum poles.

                 Calculating the right length for cross-country ski poles
Next to the skis, the pole is the most important equipment for cross-country skiing. With the wrong pole length, you can't improve your technique and, in the worst case, damage your posture. Fortunately, choosing the right cross-country ski pole is not particularly difficult.
Pole length configurator
Two clicks and you're done!! Simply indicate how you rate your ability on cross-country skis and choose your body height. Our cross-country pole length configurator will tell you the optimal pole length for you. Since the poles are often only available in 5cm increments, you then only have to round up or down to determine the correct pole length.
{configuratorgroup "configurators":[ { "name":"$skill", "label":"Skill level", "type":"dropdown", "values":[ [ -1, "Beginner" ], [ 0, "Advanced" ], [ 1, "Athletic" ] ] }, { "name":"$height", "label":"Height", "type":"slider", "min":0, "max":220, "default":180, "steps":1, "unit":"cm" } ], "outputs":[ { "name":"$classic", "formula":"round(0.84*$height.value+$skill.value)" }, { "name":"$skating", "formula":"round(0.89*$height.value+$skill.value)" } ], "resulttext":"With a height of $height.value cm we recommend a pole length of about $classic cm for the classic style. For skating, your poles should be about $skating cm long." configuratorgroup}

How do I know if the length of the poles is right for me?
When you are on skis, you can easily check if your poles are suitable for you. For classic cross-country skiing , the poles should reach approximately up to your shoulder. Especially for beginners, the pole should never be longer. Athletic skiers and racers often take about 2-4cm longer poles to be able to push off even more powerfully. Skating poles are on average 10cm longer and may reach the skier's chin. Here, too, the recommendation is that beginners should tend to round off and athletic skiers can also choose 2-4cm longer. The following formulas provide a good guide for calculating pole length:
{paperlist headline="Formulas for calculating the length of cross-country ski poles" items=["Height (in cm) x 0.85 = Classic pole length","Height (in cm) x 0.90 = Skating pole length"] paperlist}
The right pole length for children
Because of slightly different body proportions , the rules of thumb are slightly different for children. For the classic style, poles should reach to the armpit (and not to the top of the shoulder as for adults). Skating poles should reach at least to the chin and no more than the nose. Again, poles tend to be a little longer for good skaters and a little shorter for beginners.
Why is the right pole length so important?
When cross-country skiing, the right pole length is absolutely essential. If the poles are too long or too short, not only will the skier develop poor technique, but it can also lead to body malpositions , often accompanied by back pain. If the pole is too short, the cross-country skier bends too far forward, especially in the skating style, and does not have optimal power transmission for maximum propulsion. Poles that are too long often result in the wrist being subjected to too much strain.
What else is there to consider when choosing poles?
The right shaft
The pole shaft refers to the actual pole, i.e. the tube of the pole. Under no circumstances should you rely on poles that are adjustable in length when cross-country skiing. They simply lack the stiffness for optimal power transmission and often adjust themselves unintentionally in length while running. It is therefore necessary to calculate the optimal length and then rely on the right fixed-length model.
When it comes to the material, you basically have the choice between aluminum and carbon . Basically, carbon poles are usually somewhat lighter, but also significantly more expensive. In addition, aluminum poles have the advantage of being a bit more robust. Especially for beginners we recommend to use aluminum. Racers and very athletic runners rely on carbon poles because of the weight advantage.
Grip and strap
{img number="2" align="left" caption="With the Leki System Trigger Shark 2.0, the glove can be clicked directly into the pole" img}The strap of the poles should be adjustable in width. Adjust the loop so that you can guide the pole loosely in your hand and that the loop also does not cut you when you move the pole from the very front of the body past to behind the back. The pole manufacturer LEKI offers cross-country gloves in which the glove is clicked directly into the pole. Here the strap is then completely omitted, so that you always have optimal power transmission with optimal freedom of movement at the same time.
For the grip, you often have the choice between cork and plastic, although neither material offers decisive advantages. Cork is often a little less sensitive to cold, but can wear out a little faster. Ultimately, however, this decision is up to personal taste.
Baskets
{img number="3" align="right" caption="With the Fin Vario System from LEKI you can choose the optimal basket for all conditions" img}The basket is the lowest part of the pole. It is usually made of plastic and is designed to prevent sinking into the snow. For cross-country ski poles, the basket should not be too large so that you don't get in the way with your skis. An optimal width is between 40mm (hard snow) and 50mm (soft snow). If you want to react optimally to different conditions, you should make sure that your poles have an interchangeable basket system (an example would be the Fin Vario system from LEKI).

                 Hiking backpacks - What to consider
  You're ready for your next hike, but you're not sure which backpack is the right one for your tour? Here you can find out what size you need, what features you should look out for and what equipment your backpack should have.
What size should a hiking backpack have?
{img number="4" align="right" caption="The required size depends on the planned tour. (© Tatonka)" img}Classic hiking backpacks usually have a volume between 15 and 35 liters . For easy day trips with little luggage (up to 7 kg), 15 to 20 liters are sufficient. For more demanding day trips in the mountains, 20 to 25 liters are more suitable. If you have luggage for two to three days (up to 10 kg), you should choose a backpack with a volume of 25 to 35 liters.
For short tours with little baggage , smaller backpacks or ultra-light backpacks are also sufficient. These score - as the name suggests - mainly by their light weight, but have no special carrying systems. For multi-day tours from three or four days, on the other hand, larger trekking backpacks are more suitable. With a volume of between 35 and 95 liters, they are designed for more luggage and are therefore equipped with more elaborate carrying systems and generous padding. That way, even with more weight, they still offer the necessary carrying comfort.
However, the volume specifications are only approximate guide values that should serve as orientation. Which size is the right one in the end depends on the one hand on the planned tour, and on the other hand on what is to be packed and how it is stowed. Those who limit themselves to the bare essentials can cope with a smaller capacity than hikers who like to be prepared for all eventualities and therefore prefer to take a little more with them. In changeable weather, for example, there should still be room in the backpack to stow jackets or warm mid layers that are no longer needed. Those who sweat easily may need more change of clothes. In general, however, the luggage should be limited to what is really necessary to keep the weight as small as possible and thus spare the back.
  >> Packing list: What belongs in the hiking backpack?
The back length also plays a role
{img number="8" align="left" caption="There are special backpack models for women. (© Tatonka)" img}In order for the backpack to fit well, however, the size of a backpack depends not only on the volume, but also on the back length . The height and back length of larger backpacks for multi-day tours can usually be adjusted individually, but this is often not the case with smaller daypacks. Backpacks with larger volume usually also have longer back lengths. Therefore, it is advisable for tall people to opt rather for the larger volume with fixed shoulder straps. Even if a smaller dimension would be sufficient for the luggage.
In addition, there are now many manufacturers that offer their own backpack models for women . These are better adapted to the female anatomy and often available with shorter back lengths.

  Practical equipment
{img number="2" align="right" caption="Hip and chest belts make carrying easier. (© The North Face)" img}In addition to the size of the backpack, it's also worth taking a look at the features you'll need. Most hiking backpacks are made of sturdy, water-resistant materials . In heavy, persistent rain, however, an additional rain cover is still recommended. This is integrated in many models in a small compartment on the bottom directly in the backpack. Nevertheless, rain covers are also available separately.
  >> Click here for rain covers for backpacks
Especially with large backpacks it is useful to have several accesses to the main compartment or a division into different compartments. This makes it easier to keep order in the luggage and things easier to reach. Many hiking and trekking backpacks also have sophisticated systems to attach equipment to the outside of the backpack . These range from mesh pockets for bottles, to loops and cords for holding poles , to carrying systems for climbing helmets. Practical additions are also small details such as a signal whistle on the shoulder strap, a key holder in the inner compartment or small pockets on the hip belt, with which important utensils are quickly at hand.
  >> More backpack accessories: straps, side pockets, helmet holders etc.
  Carrying system for ventilation and load distribution
{img number="7" align="left" caption="For comparison: adjustable contact back (left) and mesh back (right)" img}Particularly with the larger models, the carrying system also plays an important role. On the one hand, it is responsible for the distribution of the loads, on the other hand, for the ventilation on the back. Models with mesh backs are particularly well ventilated and also comfortable to wear. Their disadvantage, however, is that the weight sits further away from the body. Thus, the backpack tends to pull more to the back. Especially with heavy luggage or on more demanding routes, backpacks with contact backs therefore provide more stability.
The heavier the backpack, the more important the hip belt becomes. While in light backpacks hip belts consist only of simple straps or are omitted altogether, they are more stable and well padded in larger models. This shifts the load of the luggage from the shoulders to the hips. The padded shoulder straps then serve more to stabilize than to carry the weight. For optimum carrying comfort, the chest strap should also be adjustable - including in height.

                 Bike clothing: Best equipped with these tips!
  Before you get on your bike, you should make sure that you are properly equipped for your trip. Biking is only fun with the right bike clothing! The most important thing for cycling tours of any kind is the helmet. In the event of a fall, it protects you from serious head injuries.
In addition, there are also special cycling shoes that bring certain advantages depending on the bike. Everything you need to know about cycling shoes can be found here:
   >> Magazine: Cycling shoes for an optimal riding experience
{img number="5" align="right" caption="More fun on the bike with the right clothing" img}In this magazine article, however, we will focus on cycling clothing . Again, cyclists have countless options to choose from. The trick is to dress neither too cold nor too warm. This depends, on the one hand, on the type of cycling tour and, on the other, on the weather conditions.
Cycling pants
When cycling, the seat area including the buttocks is subjected to the greatest stress. Therefore, the choice of cycling pants, taking into account your own riding style and the hardness of the bike saddle , plays a very decisive role. Especially beginners know the feeling of an aching butt after only a few minutes of riding...
{img number="4" align="left" caption="Much more comfortable: cycling shorts with seat padding" img}To ensure that the fun doesn't stop before it starts, you should definitely get yourself some high-quality cycling shorts. In the best case models with seat pads! These increase the seat area, you sit softer and the unpleasant feeling of pain comes later or in the best case not at all.
The thickness of the seat pad varies depending on the manufacturer and forms an additional layer between the sit bones and the saddle.
   >> Comfortable cycling pants for women
   >> Comfortable cycling pants for men
  Important: When buying your cycling pants, make sure that the waistband is not too tight at the thighs. Due to the strong strain on the muscles and the continuous pedaling motion, the circumference of the thighs will increase in the course of your cycling tour. If the cycling shorts are already too tight when cold, you should always opt for a size larger.
Cycling jackets and vests
{img number="3" align="right" caption="Prepared for all eventualities with jackets or vests" img}If it is not the height of summer, we recommend that you complete your outfit with a cycling jacket or vest. It should not be underestimated that the wind can influence the perception of temperature. Responsible for this is the so-called wind chill effect . This describes the difference between the actual and perceived temperature and can often amount to several degrees.
The layer look has proven itself in uncertain weather or transitional seasons. However, you should always make sure that your cycling jacket or vest has certain functional features.
Sufficient ventilation is particularly important. On inclement days, it should, if possible, also be windproof or even waterproof . For the cold season, there are special cycling jackets with thermal functional materials and high collar.

In dry weather, cyclists also like to use light cycling vests . They protect against wind, offer sufficient freedom of movement and can be put on very quickly if necessary. Due to their small dimensions, they can also be quickly stowed away again when they are no longer needed.
   >> Lightweight cycling vests
Practical: Arm and leg warmers
If you are unsure about the weather, arm warmers and leg warmers are often the ideal solution. These look like cut-off sleeves and pants and are simply pulled over the arms or legs, as needed.
   >> Arm and leg warmers
Even more professional: Cycling jerseys
Many cyclists, whether professional or not, are very fond of cycling jerseys. Not only are they breathable, stylish and comfortable , but they are also perfectly suited to a cyclist's needs. Tight-fitting for road cyclists, especially comfortable for hobby cyclists or cool and wide cut for mountain bikers.
But not only the cut is adapted to the area of use - also elements such as zippers, cuffs or pockets are found in the position where they make sense for the respective cyclist.
Special  functional fibers  ensure that the jerseys do not soak up sweat, but remain pleasantly dry and wick moisture away from the body.{productlist category="502" supplier="23" limit="4" showprices="1" showsupplier="0" showuvp="1" css="grey" productlist}
   >> Cycling jerseys for women
   >> Cycling jerseys for men
With the right cycling clothing, cycling is fun in any season and in (almost) any weather.
  Our tip: Always pay attention to the quality of the clothing. It's better to spend a little more money on a piece of clothing and then enjoy it for a really long time.
